Man Dies Trying to Extract Gold From Computer Parts {Switched.com}

Apr 7th 2008 2:36PM "... wround of aploase for so assusingly thing the herd"

I'm going to go with "round of applause for so amusingly thinning the herd"

Andrew ... next time you post, make sure the drugs have worn off!

Texting Students Force Professor to Walk Out of Class {Switched.com}

Apr 7th 2008 1:50PM I also have to agree with the prof on this one. Texting in class is a sign of disrespect and disregard for the money that students and their parents shell out for an education. However, I think he should eject the offenders, not the folks who are paying attention. If they get ejected enough times and start falling behind in their course work, maybe it'll start to sink in.

Shirley Bassey: Just Turning 71 and Still Ready to 'Party' {Black Voices Blog}

Mar 21st 2008 9:39PM Don't be a hater, Jean! Maybe she had a little work done, but I can tell you that my Mom is 69 and people think she's in her late 40s. The melanin in our skin keeps the sun from causing us to wrinkle like people without melanin, so people often think we're 10-15 years younger than we really are. Of course, it helps to have a fantastic stylist like Dame Bassey, but she doesn't need too much help. Either you got it or you don't!

Mo Wants To Know ... What's Tehran's Hottest Gay Bar? {News Bloggers}

Sep 25th 2007 6:59PM I voted for Guyatolla's (What can I say? I'm a child of the 80s, so I'll never forget the Iranian hostage crisis). That Ayatolla guy both intrigued and scared the hell out of me!

While we're at it, why not have a place where closeted gay military personnel can go to shake their groove things called:

"GENERAL'S PEneTRAtE-US"

Which sets the heart a-fluttering more: Chocolate or a kiss? {That's Fit}

Sep 25th 2007 12:24PM It's so obvious! Eat a Hershey's Kiss! LOL

Just kidding! I'd gladly enjoy a passionate kiss with the right guy over a piece of chocolate. But there are times when I've got to have my chocolate.

Bottom line: I won't be denied either one when it's something that I really crave!!! :-)

Poor OJ, No Longer a Civil Rights Hero {News Bloggers}

Sep 18th 2007 9:02PM Sorry, Dinesh you're wrong on this one (as you've been many times before). OJ Simpson has never been (and never will be) a civil rights icon in the eyes of the black community or anywhere else for that matter. What he symbolizes to me is the epitome of classism and that those who have money can afford to "buy" their freedom by employing defense teams that low and middle class people could never afford. I, and many of my friends were not "break dancing" as you so eloquently stated (I'm being sarcastic, of course) when the verdict was read. Some of us were just as stunned as our white friends, because we never thought he'd get away with murder. But somehow, he did (if the prosecutions allegations are to be believed). I wasn't there, so I have no idea who committed the crimes. But if there's a God in Heaven, OJ will pay for his crimes, as will you, Mr. D'Souza, for you are a race-baiter of the highest magnitude.

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Did Amy and Blake Throw Down? {AOL Hot Searches}

Aug 27th 2007 4:11PM I wish something could be done to help that poor girl! I'm sure her parents are beside themselves with grief as they watch this talented young woman throw her life away on drugs and alcohol. I cannot cast judgment for I don't know what she's been through and I'm thankful everyday that I have never needed drugs or alcohol to take away the pain of living. I will pray for Amy, because I don't want to see another talented performer taken away from us before her time.

To Toke or Not to Toke, Here Is My Answer {News Bloggers}

Aug 27th 2007 4:02PM Hi, Mo! Love your blog. You always write about things that are timely and relevant.

I really wish you had written your article six months ago, because up until a couple of months ago, I WAS also a proud member of the NBBC. I'm a 41 year-old woman, and I've been around people who "smoked joint" ever since I was a young and impressionable teenage. Though I was able to resist marijuana during a time when most of my friends were giving in, I must admit that a part of me always wondered what the big deal was all about. And so, last month, when I was with a small gathering of friends, I decided to take a plunge into the "rabbit hole." Well, I must say that I came away quite disappointed, because after I took a few "hits" I discovered that I didn't feel any different at all. Of course, now that I've read your insightful blog, I now know that I will have to smoke joint at least a couple of more times before the drug could have any major effect on me. But I don't intend to do so, because I believe I've satisfied my initial curiosity and I don't feel the need for further experimentation at this point (who knows if that might change). I still fully support my friends' and family members' decision to enjoy the pleasures of cannabis, because they enjoy it responsibly and have never hurt anyone when they were under its influence. Also, I still haven't seen any scientific data which overwhelmingly proves that marijuana is any worse for you than cigarettes or alcohol are. All that we need to do enact laws to prohibit its distribution to and use by minors, just as we did with tobacco and alcohol.

Crying in Airports {News Bloggers}

Aug 21st 2007 8:56PM Yo! Marta R and Rhodalee! I'm a Philly girl, too and I just love reading Mo Rocca's blogs (I wrote a comment on the "Skinny Bitches" page), cuz they just crack me up! I just wanted to say that I'm with you, ladies. I adore Philly and I absolutely hate it when people trash my beloved city (it's been a part of my life since I was born, so it feels like a part of my family). I know it's got its faults, but who doesn't. So, I've learned to love it warts and all.

I agree with Game Theory that Philly Int'l Airport can be a bit "lax" in its luggage handling practices, but I've found that the best way to travel when you're passing through our fair city is to pack extremely light. I went to Cali in May for a four day trip and I took only the bare essentials (items that could be mixed and matched to look like multiple outfits). I also made sure all of my items followed the TSA safety guidelines; I wore flip flops and packed all of my jewelry (I love silver) in a clear baggy so I could go through the metal detector with ease. And you know what? I didn't have a single problem or delay! I breezed through security with an hour to spare and my luggage was waiting for me when I got to Cali and when I arrived back home. Being a frequent traveler, I've learned never to carry anything with me that I can't easily replace.

Oh, and Marta ... we've got something else in common. I cried on a SEPTA (aka SEPTIC) bus, too. Sadly, I lost my brother a little over a month ago, and I had been trying really hard to keep my emotions in check, especially at work, but one night, I started thinking about him on the ride home and I started crying silently, tears steadily running down my face, and I just couldn't stop. Luckily, it was pretty late and the bus was fairly empty. But it was a good cry, if I must say so and just what I needed at that time.

Take care, ladies! And safe travels in Berlin, Mo! Aufwidersehen!

Can Pretty Girls Get Guys To Do Anything? {News Bloggers}

Aug 20th 2007 8:00PM There have been countless studies done which prove that attractive people, in general, get preferential treatment over people who are perceived as less attractive. Students prefer teachers who are pretty (and even think they're smarter); job applicants who are more attractive get more second interviews than their homlier counterparts; the list goes on and on. Humans, like animals are visual creatures, and more often than not, those with the looks have a better chance at scoring the goods, while the rest of us average schlubs have to kill 'em with kindness or wow 'em with intellect before we're given more than a casual glance.

Life is officially unfair! Oh well, I don't have a problem buying my own shoes!
