Two Quarterbacks for Auburn? Maybe {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Jul 9th 2008 5:04PM     Crimson Bleeder! There are questions all through the Western Division. Kodi Burns put up some pretty good passing numbers in Auburn's A-Day game (admittedly against hog-tied coverage in the middle), AND in the final scrimmage, where the defense was supposedly turned loose. I'm hoping it carries over to fall. Chris Todd looks like he knows what he's doing, but was having a tough time getting the ball out there with any zip. They had had Todd wearing number 12, and I swear it looked like Brandon Cox had been granted a tenth year of eligibility...
Worst Moments in Big Ten Football History #8: Chuck Long Doesn't Win the 1985 Heisman {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Jul 5th 2008 3:41PM     Probably way late and won't be seen, but... Watch Bo, and make your own judgment!

The SEC's Shifting Defensive Sands {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Jul 5th 2008 3:39PM     I'd like to think of it as the SEC exporting surplus talent. The SEC is full of great defensive play. Conferences like the Big 12 would LIKE to have great defenses, so the demand for defensive coaches is higher out west, at this time.
OK, Stop Selling Your Championship Rings {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Jul 5th 2008 3:36PM     Well, rammerjammer, at least SOMEONE is still reading this blog! Didn't Pete Holiday do one of these "ring scandals," last year, and we found out that the ring was a salesman's "sample ring?"
    This time, they've been smart enough not to post any detailed pictures. Keep that rumor mill going, journalistic tradition!
Worst Moments in Big Ten Football History #8: Chuck Long Doesn't Win the 1985 Heisman {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Jun 15th 2008 9:27PM     I seriously doubt that Auburn would have gone 1-10 in 1985, without Bo. Bo got hurt in the second game of 1984, and Auburn posted 9 wins without him. In fact, in 1984, we were 0-2 with Bo starting. We had other capable backs, such as Brent Fullwood, Colis Campbell, Kyle Collins, and Tim Jessee, as well as future NFL fullback Tommy Agee. Fullwood was an All-American in 1986.
Worst Moments in Big Ten Football History #8: Chuck Long Doesn't Win the 1985 Heisman {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Jun 9th 2008 4:14PM     We were fortunate that Bo won that thing. As I recall, it was one of the closest votes in history, so a LOT of voters agreed with you!
    Honestly, I think some of it was a sympathy vote. Jack Crowe and Pat Dye installed one of the dumbest-looking offenses I've ever seen, that year. They abandoned the wishbone, and tried to run a power-I, in an era where everyone else was throwing more and more. Bo was asked to run through 9-man fronts, and for the most part, did. There were a couple of teams, Tennessee and Florida, who were able to slow him down enough to win. Then, of course, we also played Alabama and Texas A&M, and couldn't stop those two. A lot of us Auburn fans felt cheated, that we had such a great back, and were trying to run him 40 times a game. Never a pass on first down, not even a 5-yard hitch. Always Bo. Jack Crowe lost his job over it.
    Auburn's 9-2 squad the next year was a new pro-I offense installed by Pat Sullivan. It began the best four-year run in Auburn history, as we transitioned to being a big-play passing team.
    This discussion reminds me of the Woodson/Manning debate of 1997. Everyone here in the south argues that one, on NFL production, too.
Tommy Tuberville Doesn't Think Very Highly of Ohio State {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
May 31st 2008 12:30AM     Well, as you know, Tuberville can't resist the partisan comment! There is a newer pic, of him raising seven fingers in the Iraq desert. Since the Buckeyes were handed a zebra-striped gift in the 2003 Championship Bowl, they've had poor luck in the title game. However, I think the Big Ten has had a solid bowl record, overall, against the SEC.
    If Ron Zook and the fightin' Illini win the league, this year, though... Yeah. Tuberville may well be right!
BCS Chooses Money Over Athletes. Again. {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
May 1st 2008 9:37AM     Well, I've gotta say I'm in complete agreement with that one, Pete. It's entirely possible that some folks were afraid that the Big Ten and Pac Ten would pull out, and then who would the SEC bomb in the title game, every year?
Nick Saban's the Real Snake Oil Salesman Around These Parts {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Feb 16th 2008 1:04PM     Normally, I try to stay off the Bama board, unless I have something constructive to say about the enemy. Frankly, after some of the division, and guys not buying into the system last year...
    If I were Saban, I'd be handing out some pink slips, too. What, you're supposed to be able to keep your scholly, even if you blow the coaches off and do your own thing? If you will remember Tuberville cut some guys loose early on, including some guys that had started games, like fullback Roman Nelsen!
The Country's Five Most Disappointing Recruiting Classes {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Feb 7th 2008 9:06PM     Thanks, Gamecock Man! We Auburn folk aren't terribly pleased, but your comments do have merit! I can't believe the 5-star recruits are buying the Saban kool-aid, myself. Yeah, there's a depth chart over in Tuscaloosa full of spots held by walk-on guys and such, but still! Is early playing time worth that?
    It's going to be an interesting year in the SEC, regardless. Is Vanderbilt done, with Bennett gone? How 'bout Kentucky, with Woodson out of time? South Carolina went Ka-blooie, on defense, after Jasper Brinkley got hurt. So, is Mark Richt suddenly tops, because he let 'em wear black? Urban Meyer, the no-running back coach, will he win with Tebow alone in the backfield?
    Will defending champ LSU repeat, with NONE of Saban's recruits? How 'bout depleted Arky? Can Croom do it with a good D and a stone-age offense? It will be interesting to see how Nutt gears up a reject Mazzone-Werner hodgepodge offense. I'd give him at least another year before contending for a title. Saban has a depleted roster, and yes, there are opportunities for freshmen to start. Bama won't finish last. But, if Auburn can continue to improve on the Peach Bowl start, there's no reason that they can't compete for the West prize with LSU.
War Eagle!
