Video: Flight Attendant Busts Pre-Flight Rhymes (Blackvoices Main)

Mar 27th 2009 11:17PM Entertaining as they might be, Southwest's (and a few others) "creative" pre-flight safety announcements are a very bad idea. The purpose of the announcement is to convey information about a highly standardized and very important safety facilities and procedures to an audience of varying backgrounds, regional or national English dialects or levels of English comprehension. The only acceptable presentation should be plainly spoken standard U.S. English utilizing a prescribed script. The recorded announcements are boring, but exactly what is necessary for this purpose.

Geek Gifts for Bush's Birthday (Switched)

Aug 10th 2007 11:27AM I see a couple of problems with the mower:

Second, you'll have lots of trouble keeping it out of the mud.

The Knee Defender: Preventing Airplane Seats from Reclining (Gadling)

Jan 9th 2007 11:08PM Over the years I have been flying, the airlines have repeatedly reduced the pitch (spacing) of the seats, especially in coach in order to cram more seats into the plane. I have had broken laptops, and seriously bruised knees as a result.

I think that anyone who reclines a seat under these conditions should recognize that it is invariably a significant intrusion into someone else's space. If someone else's seat keeps me from even standing up to go to the restroom, I don't consider that reasonable at all.

In the end, I think the airlines should either lock all seatbacks to prevent reclining, or should require that anyone wishing to recline get the permission of the person behind them.
