Jul 31st 2008 3:44PM Creative Labs has always been, and always will be, a pile of junk company with very little commitment to quality. If anyone wants to flame me, go right ahead, but here are my reasons:

1. Their driver support is always junk. Either the driver isn't working at all, it's terribly inefficient, or it's bloated to hell. Go figure, my $1500 professional soundcard has a 250kb driver with features out the wazoo, but my Audigy 2 ZX notebook card was no less than 30 megabytes?

2. They are too far up their own asses to understand what their customers really need, and rather than working on solutions to improve sound quality and functionality they're too busy rolling out proprietary DSP effects and other stupid junk. This applies to the EMU cards too - believe it or not real musicians use plugins for audio processing and not onboard DSP effects.

3. Anyone who presents a threat to Creative's business with a superior product is doomed to be sued out of existence (see Aureal Semiconductor).

I'll take my chances with any other card, pro, consumer, or otherwise. Creative can go die in a fire for all I'm concerned.

Sep 14th 2007 1:36PM I don't consider myself an audiophile, but I do appreciate excellent sound quality. Then again, I can understand that I'm the minority, as I can hear a distinct difference between 320kbps MP3 encoded with LAME at the highest quality setting, versus a WAV file. I would certainly consider one of these if they can get the US price below $400. Still really expensive for a portable, but I didn't maintain my music collection in lossless formats to hear it destroyed by a cheap portable player with a crappy DAC and a shitty digital amplifier that exceeds 1% THD. Call me a snooty audiophile, call me more obsessed with gear than music, who cares! I like my music to sound the way it was intended.

Oct 26th 2006 10:11AM I love it... Mac users are so quick to defend Apple for anything - cracked cases, overheating issues, even the fact that their latest iPods shipped with a Windows virus pre-loaded! Somehow Apple is a absolved from all responsibility.

Apple fans have been trying to push this agenda for as far back as I can remember, that Apple products are somehow above the issues that plague the rest of consumer electronics and computers. Whether it be inferior offshore manufacturing, poor quality control, or just straight up blunders, this just shows that Apple isn't the "knight in shining armor" that all these fanboys claim it is.

I've been a PC guy forever, and dealt with my share of crap, as anyone can imagine. All I've gotta say to Mac users is "Welcome to my world, muaahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!"
