If You Can't Win By the Rules, Change Them (AOL Elections Blog)

Apr 27th 2007 10:01AM The democrats are taking a page out of the Republican play book. Move the goalposts and change the game to help you win. The electoral college was changed by laws. It was legislated and changed the way we elected presidents, duh. So the Dems are not the entire problem, and are not against the founding fathers intentions. Try again. The bicameral, two house legislature, was created in the Constitution. The electoral college was added later. The senate was fashioned on the house of lords and the house was fashioned on the house of commons according to population of the several states. So the vote for president was for the majority in the beginning, and the electoral college was added later. Where is the Dems destroying our nation now? How pc it has become to blame the democrats for crime, treason, cowardice, unpatriotism and the downfall of our nation. How republican, and how stupid. We as a party are the ones that have created the modern day america, with the 40 hour work week, protections of social security and medicare, the food stamp program that has been so dissed, (they do not want kids and single mothers to eat apparently) and many other things that have made america more family friendly. The Republicans have taken away a lot of this and are trying to take more now. When will america wake up to this fact, and they have stolen most of our future in this war, and the fear mongering still going on to promote it. Bush has destroyed our name among nations that do not torture, and run over people's rights. And now Iran is in danger from some in this administration. Have they gone completely bonkers? Changing the rules has become another hallmark of this Administrations' attempt to roll back the clock on the modern america we have come to appreciate. I hope to God that is remembered in the coming election and not hidden behind personal attacks, smoke and mirrors, scapegoating of immigrants, fearmongering of terrorists (there are criminals all over the world, Cho of Virginia comes to mind). And since the semi automatic weapon ban was let to expire last year by this administration, we now see this in our own country. I am not for gun control, but this law was essential and necessary. It is far cheaper to hire pundits, and Fox news quasi newshounds, who put out the propaganda of this nation as news than it is to put reporters on the street for real news coverage. Freedom of the press has suffered tremendously in this nation of free speech. So changing the rules works if you can get away with it, as this government has for years now. We had Abu Gharib, and still have Guantanamo. The outrage is quashed by goons and the news is spotty at best. It has echos of Tammany Hall where the machine was the boss and nobody was allowed or permitted to object. Since the change in congress, more than 200 investigators have been hired for those oversight positions that have languished in the past 6 years. So consider well whether or not you vote Republican again. Voting that way is a vote for slavery and recision of rights. Dont let fear control your vote, let it be the right thing to do for your country and bring us out of this wrong headed direction we are in now, with the war and other failures of this administration.

Rove Under the Microscope (AOL Elections Blog)

Apr 27th 2007 8:24AM I am sick of this administration and wary of the one to come. Answers are not forthcoming from the candidates to my satisfaction. Hillary is a good talker, but she has Bill to study with. Can she really become president of this racist, backwards nation? The neo cons in power still can destroy at the whisper, Plame, and the Swift boat people still are being rewarded, with ambassadorships. The media is still cowed, 4 companies own the networks and we are not getting the news we need to be getting. Rosie of the View may rub some people the wrong way but she is informative and brings up questions that no one is talking about. We finally have a voice that has been silenced for 6 years now under this "Nothing to see here" administration. The devastation of Darfur is being documented, by Frenchmen, and we as a nation are silent because China is behind the sanctions not being enforced at the UN. Condi is making trips around the world and coming back empty handed. Iran is making fools of us in Iraq, and the surge will only delay the inevitable, our pullout and it is a travesty. Malaki has not spent the money already there for infrastructure and jobs, and that is what will help the country more than more bullets. Partition it and come on out, I say. The cleansing has already been done for some of the neighborhoods, the Christians are gone and some of the other religions in Baghdad. That is why people are still going to Syria, and why Assad is cracking down on those still in country. Give them a place to go back to Iraq. Al Quaeda was dead after 9/11, and the lies of this administration got us into Iraq because Bush was on vaction and Cheney wanted to go. He now wants to go into Iran. Why? Because of oil and because he has this need to be what he is. It is too bad we do not have a Schick test for honesty, we need that for politicians. Diptheria of the soul is rampant in our politicians, and comes out of the mouth. Rudy G. says the Democrats do not have answers to Iraq. The answers he has is absolutely wrong, so is he any better? Unfortunately, I like Tommy Thompson's ideas of Iraq, but I will never vote for another republican. The party of Abe Lincoln and Teddy Rooseveldt has died. Now it is the party of Tom Delay and people of swift boat persuasion, Karl Rove, and Dick Cheney. Abrahmoff, and Ken Lay, symptoms of decay before our eyes, and denial at the highest levels. China is a nation of criminals in high places just like America. And the only thing they are doing is protecting the Olympics in anything they do in foreign relations the next few years. (Darfur). They want to head off a boycott of the games. Clinton finally went into Bosnia, but Darfur has been wildernized by the Arab government already. So Rove under investigation again, is just wonderful. If Fitzgerald couldn't do it, who can? Katrina and Brownie, Gonzales and Justice, Rove and Plame, no one is getting the blame, or solving the problem. Wall Street knows that the economy runs on speculation, and the talk is that same ole, same ole will be the norm for a little time longer, and the Dow breaks 13000! Money runs this country. The terrorist know this. It is a shame that our politicians have become political shills for those who run it behind the scenes. Do we really know who does?

Are Your Gadgets Making You Sick? (2) (Switched)

Apr 12th 2007 3:49PM Cell phones are not the only culprit of illnesses going unhearalded. WiFi is responsible for some real physical ailments, as is cordless phones, flourescent lights or ballast driven electronics like dimmers, and some clock radios. www.lessemf.com has meters that will measure your environment and alleviate some of your discomforts. There are other filters, such as the Stetzer filter that will take the high frequencies off your home wiring (not 60 htz, the kind that is non responsive many times.)Those of you who suspect you are sensitive to these emmissions, go to Esens, on Yahoo.com a health related group of people with hints to cope in this connected world. Some have found through nutrition and shielding, some if not complete relief. Also, www.antennasearch.com will show you how many cell towers/antennas are around your home address or work address. We need to join together for our own protection and laws that alleviate some of this electromagnetic pollution now here. In Europe it is called elektrosmog, and some places it is considered a disability, but here the commercial concerns take control of our legislative arena. Good luck.

O'Reilly & Rivera Go Ballistic (AOL Video Blog)

Apr 7th 2007 12:39PM Go Geraldo! Thank God someone is taking on this dolt with fervor and matching him tit for tat. Thank god someone is standing up to this mouthpiece for stupidity and narrowmindedness. Our country means more than slamming people in jail and deporting them. There is no fairness in our system of justice anymore. Jerks like O'Reilly have hijacked our laws and created a small german state within our system of democracy. When will all americans stand up and say something. Yes laws need to be upheld, but there needs to be evenhandedness, and God knows that is not here in America anymore when Presidents can remove all rights, hold you without charges keep you away from even your lawyers, and no one says anything! The patriot act passes, and no on has even read it! Now we see it for what it is and no one has the courage to stop it. COME ON AMERICA. Where is our sense of right and wrong?????When the DEA can invade your privacy at will from next door with the technology and no one speaks up? Innocent people at risk from dangerous technology and no one speaks up? And now vicious people go after those who have been mislead into thinking america is the answer to their dreams. Come on now. Jesus was a liberal too. When has fairness and justice ever been relatable to a Republican? They all want to continue the legalized slavery of the minimum wage limits, deny global warming is real, give away our treasury to their friends who then move to Dubai, and chide us for our lack of patriotism.
The war is a mistake, but how can we leave and not create more havoc for the world, and Bush knew this would happen. It is his forte, and his mode of operation. We must be very careful in who we elect the next time to get us out of this mess, and O'Reilly be damned.

Inhofe Eviscerates Self, Again (AOL Elections Blog)

Mar 25th 2007 1:01PM I love it. Boxer and elections, so true. And Republicans bite the dust a second time in prime time so great. So good for the Dems and my spirit. Al Gore is ok doing what he is doing. He lost to Bush and should not have. If he had counted all of Florida the world would be different now. Moving on to others and not following the moveon.org line necessarily. Vilsak endorsing Clinton? wants to be VP does he? I do not want to have Hillary, she has too many negatives, and I do not trust her more than I do not trust Bill. The ostrich in the sand technique the Republicans use is dated and is a non starter. We have recognized it and elections do have consequences, we are pleased to see. Pelosi did good this week. The new Dems did good too. We are finally on our way out of the hole dug by Bush, I hope. Global warming makes it imperative and none too soon.

Pork and defeat -- a Democratic stew (News Bloggers)

Mar 25th 2007 12:18PM We need to make an exit strategy from Iraq. Rummy, deluded as he was, did not or made one that was unrealistic, hello? Seem familiar with this white house? In a country mostly young, and brought up on hatred for the US, kids blowing themselves up is par for the course. I hope the November elections has improved our standing in the world that Bush has trashed. We are still being demonstrated against worldwide, and the media here is not covering it, as happened to Bush on his world visit recently. All this talk about the Dems screwing up, it is our turn! How can we do more that has already been done? We have no standing in the world, no goodwill, we are considered liars, arrogant and stupid. Bush called a bully, and called Diablo at the United Nations by a leftist South American president. The monetary scandals have yet to be exposed, and the Abrahamoff one is a drop in the Halliburton bucket, so to speak. 9 Billion gone, and they decide to move to Dubai? Claiming lost documents no doubt. Anyone on point here? And there is still talk about taxes being incresed. There is the priority for you. Not in my backyard they say. Fie.
For Bush to hide behind the protections of the constitution now, after ignoring it for 6 years and torturing all and sundry is the height of hypocracy. So the lies now coming out in Justice is just more evidence of a pattern. The pork in this bill is a screen for the complete fury about the 18 month pullout from Iraq. Our constitution provides for divided control over war powers, not the imperial presidency Bush envisions. He is not imperial and wants to be?, since he is a distant cousin of Queen Elizabeth of England, and maybe has thought along those lines. After all, he is the leader of the free world, due to the Osama tape prior to the last election, one of his (Osama's) miscalculations. The 3 million mandate Bush touted after that election was far less than the one last November that he is ignoring. Our ship of state cannot turn on a dime. Repercussions come from every decision. And loyalty is not the coin of the realm. Wisdom should be. Where is the study group for an Iraq exit strategy??

Pork and defeat -- a Democratic stew (News Bloggers)

Mar 25th 2007 11:43AM As Cokie Roberts said this morning on This Week with George Stephanopolis, "By Washington standards it was hardly any pork at all." What is the fuss about a measly million or two, when the war in Iraq is 418 billion and counting? Justice is broken here in the US, Gonzales is out of his league and Washington knows it, the War on Drugs has been lost for years and the DEA knows it,and the Patriot Act removes many constitutional protections and we all know it. Checks and balances has been restored as of last November, get used to it. We are a nation of voters, even when they try to remove us from the rolls and no one makes a big enough fuss. Gonzales is gone if Bush is smart, but who has ever said that about this administration. He is a loyal guy to his friends, but the rest of us are out in the cold. Those days are coming to a close, thank god.

All politics may be local, but not all law enforcement should be (News Bloggers)

Mar 23rd 2007 10:04AM At the risk of garnering Republican wrath again, the 8 US Attorneys fired were fired at the behest of the White house is a given. What is not, is the lying to congress that post dated those decisions. Justice is cavalier when it comes to anything related to oversight of congress and with the abuses in Justice on the american streets and War on Drugs, congress cannot afford to ignore this. Abusive high technology cannot be adequately supervised and must be rescinded from law enforcement save the war on terror. The Patriot act provisions that counter our long held constitutional freedoms must be taken out. Republicans go apopolictic when demos want more social programs, but when the law enforcement overreaches, are silent. Do we really want to become a satellite of Putin's way of doing things? Oh I forgot, Bush and he are fast friends already.

Prosecutor Purge Update (AOL Elections Blog)

Mar 10th 2007 3:54PM It should be no surprise that this government mirrors the Nixon one as many in it are leftovers from his. Cheney is the highest ranking one, but many under him also. With legislation like the REAL ID act that has the potential to place beacons on our driver's liscenses, and GPS any american, in congress now, and under the comment section for proposed legislation til May 07, why is it strange for this administration to be criminal or quasi- in the name of the war on terror? Their callous disregard for liberty and the rule of law has been proven time and time again. It will be years before we know the full extent of this hijack of our rights. There has been no oversight for a long time, and this just confirms it again. Political pressure from the executive branch brings back bilious memories of Watergate and embarassment for all Americans. What else with the Bush closet reveal?

Hillary's In. Can She Win? (AOL Elections Blog)

Jan 27th 2007 9:42AM There is a yearning for a Democratic president in America today that can make a difference and will stand for all of us, that we have not had for 8 years now. In the 6 years of GW, China has become a world power and holds a lot of our paper (treasury bonds) and we are beholden to them financially. When will they call in their Chit? That is what needs attention now, not Hillary or Obama, race/gender/homo bating, family values, etc. I am a real fan of Jim Webb, the man who gave the rebuttal to the State of the Union. He and Hillary on a ticket together maybe a dream. We are not ready for Obama,at all unfortunately. We are still a racist country at best. We need a strong man to take the reins after GW leaves or the middle east will explode due to the mess GW leaves. We will be in Iraq for several more years now, as we have to stay to keep the situation stable enough to not inflame that part of the world in factionalism and violence more so than already done. Malaki is despised by Iraqis and we need to address that in our dealings with him. Partition of Iraq will not work for the cities, as they are an amalgum of sects. Why not make them safe zones like the cities of the bible of old?We need a president that understands foreign policy and is brave and cunning. Hillary qualifies, but has too many negatives now. John Edwards and Jim Webb? We want the white house, please do not go PC on us Democrats.
