Americans Increasingly Becoming 'Cyberchondriacs,' Study Finds (Switched)
Aug 7th 2010 10:03AM Jany, I understand your point of view. However, here's another fact: Doctors are not the diagnostians they used to be. Assumptions are made based on your gender and your age; these assumptions often prove to be groundless. Batteries of tests are ordered accordingly and tests are expensive. When my husband became ill, we had to suffer through a wrong diagnosis and a procedure that should never have been performed before he was diagnosed correctly (finally) with Stage IV Follicular non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. You can BET I researched and learned everything possible about that disease. And I added my voice to the internet with 3 articles on Declaring War on non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma detailing our journey from stage 4 of that cancer to remission.
What the medical community as a whole needs to understand is that the most important person in that examining room is the patient. A great doctor will PARTNER with that patient to combat the disease. We had a great oncologist who understands and practices this. That patient also has to understand everything that's going on as well. So, yeah, I use the internet to research conditions and diseases when I or one of my loved ones falls ill. And, it has always proved beneficial in consultations.

Fit Buzz: Most Obnoxious Comment About Your Weight (That's Fit)
Apr 18th 2010 12:18PM Derrel, many people have self-image issues (overweight, too thin, too tall, too short, etc.)with which they must somehow deal. Your particular affliction is a shriveled, mean, black heart. You appear to be proud of that and apparently have no wish to cure your heart condition. That being the case, you need to know that unsolicited "looks" and comments regarding another person's appearance are NOT your right. No one appointed you, sir, as the Great Arbiter regarding such matters. So, keep your hateful expressions and comments to yourself, ya nit!
And, no, I am neither overweight nor too thin. I am, however, heartily sick of people (like yourself) who believe they have the right to be hateful and nasty to others.
