Pippa Gaining Ground on Top Baby Name List in 2011 (ParentDish)

Jul 27th 2011 10:30PM Luna is also a main character in Piers Anthony's Immortal books. Her nickname was Moth. We named our first born Lance because it was a good name and different, and neither of us could think of a celeb with that name (there was another reason, not important here) ... there were 3 Lance's in his fifth grade class. He was the one designated Lancelot which he didn't like.

Try This: What's Your Go-To "Healthy" Meal? (Kitchen Daily)

Mar 18th 2011 8:28AM My kids are grown now, but... we figured that if you have to talk someone (a kid) into eating something you are setting them against it. Small rebellions. So one of us would say something like "Tomorrow is going to be tough: give me strength" and load on the Brussels Sprouts or Beets. Kids hear the positive. And mostly, they like vegies. One couldn't stand beets, ugh on artichokes from #2, another would only eat Carrot Gravy (carrots in white sauce) but that was because he didn't want gravy on potatoes. When my baby got his first tooth, he refused anything that looked like baby food -- know what squeezed peas look like? Egg plant was a complete failure until I put it into the spaghetti. quick and easy lunch: Drain Pasta, (use small shells)then add a can of chicken broth and assorted vegies.

The Hatch-Palucks, Week 15: The Elephant In the Room (ParentDish)

Jan 22nd 2011 10:39AM We weren't exactly adventurous eaters, but my husband and I had both
suffered through incidents involving meals containing food other than
meat and potatoes. We decided our kids weren't going to do that, so
'we' did one new food or preparation each week. "You liked it last
time" almost always worked. I don't like asparagus and artichokes or
fried bananas. Hubby won't eat Red Beans and Rice ... But basically, a
kid will eat enough to keep them alive and well. One trick is to make
new stuff extra attractive, and make a lot of Um-m noises -- while not
trying to force it on the non-eater.

Best War Movies Ever (Moviefone Blog)

Mar 5th 2009 9:53PM I loved Steel Helmet. I was too young to recognise famous actors and directors ... I just thought it was great. And that line, "If you die I'll kill you" was unforgettable.

15 Phishing Scams to Watch Out For (Switched)

Mar 5th 2009 6:05PM It doesn't matter who it is: if I get an email from a business, bank, whatever that may be legit, I log in to my account or telephone them. Many times they don't know anything about emails being sent.

Times Square to get a makeover for less traffic, more fun (WalletPop)

Mar 2nd 2009 8:45AM I went to NYC one time. Times Square the reality was not anything like Times Square of the movies. What was different? It was day time for one, and one could see an old, dirty city. Didn't help that there was a garbage strike going on at the time, there were thousands of cars -- and the pedestrian did not have the right of way! -- but try as hard as I could I couldn't see greatness. I should have gone back in the night, but a guy told us about the muggers and we got scared. If it was a pedestrian mall, it would be fixed up/cleaned up and kept that way. A tourist could look at the lovely (again) old buildings and enjoy the spot. I just hope it doesn't change the people too much. They were some of the nicest people, helpful while being tolerant; caring in the middle of their hustle and bustle work day.

Entrepreneur's Journal: Time to renegotiate with your vendors and suppliers? (BloggingStocks)

Feb 16th 2009 8:46AM On the other hand, your vendors and suppliers are also a part of the US of America and also feeling the crunch. Plus your employees want a raise but won't go to drastic measures to force you into giving them one ... there are plenty of other workers out there who will be happy to collect the paycheck, and as long as you pay the same as most everyone else doing the same thing you are alright. Of course, it's grand if you produce something people really want/need and you do it as well as or better than anyone else.

Backlash against Kellogg's: would legalizing marijuana be good for the economy? (WalletPop)

Feb 11th 2009 8:45AM Don't you get it? If pot were legal the dealers would be out of business. Anyone can say anything they want about any company for free, but that company should have the right to say yea or nay to those they pay to say good stuff because people relate the person on the ad to the person on his feet ... Hitler would never appear on a box of cereal though he was a health nut. (that was an exageration, by the way) "Oh, he was a racist. OMG! This cereal agrees with racists?"

Jetstar charges passengers by the pound (Gadling)

Feb 10th 2009 9:24AM Actually, it makes sense. To an airline, people are cargo. 150 pound person with how many pounds of luggage equals the boarding pass. Moving around cargo affects steering, balance (doesn't it? It does on a delivery truck) Rest room facilities should probably be charged by the minute to keep people moving. It is too bad that the slender seem to need the facilities more than the over weight, but that's evening the score. McDonalds or Taco Bell, Starbucks and Baskin Robbins could cater the flights, and the food could be paid for on the spot. Stewardesses couldn't wear roller skates, but they could be car hops -- it might even make their job easier.
