Sep 21st 2010 1:54AM Lettimg Lindsay out of jail and rehab early were serious mistakes. She needs to be locked up so she'll know how the real world is supposed to work. If ahe spends 180 days in jail/rehab, she'll finally get an overdue dose of reality and realize that the next line or drink could result in even more serious consequences.

I wish Lindsay well, but only she can control her behavior. So far, she hasn't done too well at it.

I have never thought of Jay as a heavy-handed guy and have never thought of Conan Obrien as funny. Silly, maybe, but not funny.

So, Conan “essentially altered his entire life to take over ‘The Tonight Show’.” Didn’t Jay do the same thing when the show moved from New York to Los Angeles? And didn’t he take an enormous risk when he agreed to follow Johnny Carson?

Television is about ratings and money, not the education of a host. If Conan is so smart, why did he take this gig and tank the show? Leno always beat Letterman in the ratings, but Obrien has given Letterman a double digit ratings lead. Leno is not to blame for that. Besides, how many of us would not alter our lives for millions of dollars? I sure would.

Jay announced his retirement plans five years ago, when no one had ever heard of Conan Obrien. I was surprised when NBC announced that Obrien would succeed Leno because Conan is just not funny. His ratings support that position.

Lay off Leno. Why don’t you explain why Obrien has taken a very successful late-night program and turned it into a loser? Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson and Jay Leno made “The Tonight Show” one of the most successful programs in television history. Now, Conan has ruined it because he’s just not funny.

Period.

I read a story by a reporter who decided to investigate the classic Nigerian scam. He went to London to meet the representative of his benefactor. When the representative realized what the reporter was up to, he threatened to kill him.

Liz Taylor was nice looking, but she has been married seven times. Christy Brinkley, who is exquisite looking, has been married four times and her last husband cheated on her with a young woman who was actually homely.

My brother is married to a teacher. A couple of years back, he had to have surgery. It was complicated and cost $50,000. Thanks to his wife's union-negotiated insurance, my brother's out-of-pocket expense was only $50.

Now, tack the value of an insurance policy like that on to the underpaid teacher's salary. Start with $20,000 a year.

Apr 3rd 2009 1:10PM Today, some parents deal with the drinking problem by hosting drinking parties for their kids and their friends. They think it's safer for the kids to drink under supervision than without it.

Do these idiots know the liability they expose themselves to? If a kid leaves a drinking party hosted by a friend's mom and that kid has an accident, guess who's going to to get sued? If the parents of a friend of my daughter hosted a drinking party for 16-year-olds, I would sue them for everything they have. I will introduce my daughter to alcohol when it is time to do so, if it ever is. I don'twant some "mom" who just wants her kid to have a party making that decision for me.

I don't want a grandchild who was born because my daughter was drunk. Do you?
