Is Jennifer Love Hewitt Replacing Mariska Hargitay on 'Law & Order: SVU'? (PopEater)

May 16th 2011 4:49PM She will be there, in a new role (granted, with less time on screen). It could be an interesting direction for the show, if we can allow it to change and grow—after all, detectives DO get promoted in real life; it makes sense that one of them would be after the length of time the show has been on. Best luck to the new SVU, and may they use a creative approach to finding Eliot an new partner.

Is Jennifer Love Hewitt Replacing Mariska Hargitay on 'Law & Order: SVU'? (PopEater)

May 16th 2011 4:44PM With all due respect, grow up! In real life, people do get promoted, and those around make adjustments. What a great opportunity for that team to interact in a new way! I think it is great that she is staying on, with new responsibilities—how will Eliot handle the fact that she was promoted, not him? How will the new partner fit in?
I agree that JOH is not the right replacement—too close to MH in appearance. go with something that can bring us a new dynamic, and the show a new leg on life. We will always have the reruns and DVDs of the show as it is now; why not let it evolve? It could be a really interesting proposition.

May 16th 2011 4:39PM I am not sure about the show tanking, I wish they would be more creative in finding a new partner for Eliot. It does not need—and would be better if it weren’t, imho—a “Hargitay type”. How about a woman of color, or a gay man, or . . . I don}t know, get creative—don’t just look for a younger Mariska. That may point to why the show is somewhat less than it was (though I am still a regular watcher)—need new thought patterns!

Slate Thinks Facebook Killed the Christmas Card (Switched)

Dec 24th 2010 6:37AM I agree with you; a real, not-quite-live snail-mail card is something special. I always buy cards made of recycled materials, and often from independent artists/businesses rather than a corporate entity or chain store. Other times I will purchase cards from a nonprofit group whose mission I support, such as UNICEF, the Sierra Club, etc. There were a couple of years when I did postcards—less paper and cheaper postage! Also remember, not everyone is on Facebook—and sometimes you want to have a real, paper photo on the bookshelf, to glimpse as you walk by—not something you can do with FB.
Merry Christmas, all!

Is Your ISP Lying? FCC Offers Tools to Test Surfing Speed (Switched)

Mar 15th 2010 7:13AM Not paranoid at all—this can be done without street address given, also free, by other services—search for “broadband speed test”. I was going to do it until I hit that registration screen and read the privacy policy.

Splurge vs. Steal: Baubles and Jewelry (Shopping Articles Blog)

Dec 19th 2009 9:04AM This did not live up to your earlier feature. I prefer the quiz format, and what happened to many items that had only one picture, not two? I can tell the difference when I see the two items side by side, but could not confirm my suspicion of which I was looking at when seeing only one (though I have my opinions, of course). Please, do it right, or don't do it at all!

Preposterous products: Men's underwear for lefties (WalletPop)

Sep 25th 2009 7:01AM As a woman, this is something I never considered, but as a lefty, I was curious when I saw the headline. I know that men's shirts and women's shirts button differently (apparently men's shirts follow the design from centuries ago when jackets [presumably belted, not buttoned] were designed to allow swords to be pulled rapidly by the right-handed; at least that is what I've heard), but I never considered men's underwear. I tease my mother about not being a lefty because there were so few left-handed products in her youth; she responds that she is better prepared should she break her left arm. Thanks for the left-handed-product site.
