15 Unusual Uses For Baking Soda (Shelterpop)

May 27th 2010 8:11AM I make a paste with vinegar and fresh lemon to clean tub, etc. Can't use regular cleaning products. Also you can make a paste and use it all over body in the shower. Makes you body very smooth. Brushing teeth. Linda

Upside-Down Gardening: Fab or Fad? (Shelterpop)

May 26th 2010 7:52AM The planters are nice if you have a balcony and not much sun. I have a huge tree in front of my balcony, so I don't get much sun --and only morning sun. I had plenty of tomatoes last year. I guess the bag heats up more when you don't have much sun. like a greenhouse. You wouldn't be able to use these planters in full sun. They would most likely burn up. Linda

What's really in Glade, Windex and Pledge? SC Johnson will finally tell you (Daily Finance)

Nov 29th 2009 5:46PM Some of us were living our lives okay and then when our imune system was low for some reason became very sensitive to these very products. I used Windex, Pledge, Ivory Snow, dryer sheets, all the stuff for years, and now I can't have any of that in my home. I did research when I had sinus surgery, asthma, migraines, chest pain when I would get near these products I used all my life.

Then I found out there are millions of people all over the world that get these same problems when near these products.

Since the 70's about 85,000 new chemicals have been introduced into the market and put into our products. These companies do not have to test to make sure that these products are safe when they put them on the market. And we know how that goes. There have been enough problems in the news that most people should be aware by now that money usually comes first before our safety.

Many of our wood products are not accepted in Japan and other countries --but you can allow the US to use them. Wonder why.

There is a lot of talk about regulation. Even the chemical companies say they want to be regulated, which means tested to make sure the chemicals are safe that are in our products. Seems reasonable.

Sometimes people like to blow information off and say oh that person must be en activist or something when they might be just trying to let the people know what they have found out. I don't think it is okay for our children, or any of us to be exposed to so many chemicals from every direction. It is a little chemical here and a few more chemicals there and it all adds up after a while. No one questions when a pregnant person is very sick when near gasoline, food, or perfume, etc.

The sad thing is unless you see it pasted all over the news that people are dropping, most just go about their business and never take the time to wonder why so many have asthma, and all these illnesses that were not here many years ago. Sure we had the infectious illnesses, but I am talking about the illnesses that many most likley got from something where they work, maybe from indoor mold in their school, any number of places.

They already are regulating their products in the European Countries--why not here. Linda

Janitors seek ban on toxic cleaners used by supermarkets (Daily Finance)

Nov 7th 2009 1:08PM For people that think they are using the product and having no problem--yea I did that til 44. Many of these products cause cancer, etc. But also many of the chemicals linger for hours or even days. Just because one can't detect it, doesn't mean it isn't there. Many people kind of get use to the odors of these chemicals and don't notice if they use it every day. It is kind of like the guy that works in the chocolate factory and he doesn't notice it anymore-- but people that come into the place detect it right away. The same is for products people use at home. Until they are away from it for a while they may not even know that that is what was causing a headache all the time.

There are many more illnesses now then there were say 30 or 40 years ago. Sure they had the infectious disease illnesses, but how many kids did you know with asthma back then. I didn't know any my entire childhood. Schools are starting to think about the cleaning products they use.

When someone has some illness and it is not understood there is no reason to call it psycho-somatic. The people that use that term are the people that make the product or have a monitary interest. There is enough literature out there to get educated. Especially our baby products should be safer. I can't even go down the isle where the baby products are now. I used Ivory Snow for 20 years. Janitors seek ban on toxic cleaners used by supermarkets (Daily Finance)

Nov 7th 2009 7:29AM The people that clean have every reason to seek a ban on many toxic cleaners. Actually even the chemical companies have requested regulation. Since the 70's about 80,000 chemicals have been introduced and have never been tested for safety. You would assume that our gov't would not let companies just put what ever they want in products and not have to prove their safety.

Unfortunately even our cosmetics, soaps, detergents, baby products have the same problem. All they have to do is put fragrance on the label and that could be hundreds or thousands of chemicals-- who knows-- because they don't have to tell. Their secret formula. Several years ago the EU Government started regulating their products. The Bush Administration wrote to other countries trying to convince them not to regulate their products because it would ruin our economy. So profit was more important than our health.

I never knew about this stuff until I got very ill with lung problems, sinus problems, migraines and after a while I could not be near everyday products. I use vinegar and baking soda to clean. I have to use safer lotions, soaps, detergents, etc. And come to find out there are millions suffering the same problem and have to live like this because our gov't put profit before our safety.

Now that I use safer products I can swim almost the length of the pool under water --but get me near these products, and I am very ill. Of course chlorine is not good either but swimming makes my body stronger. I can't use sun tan lotion --have to use an alternative.

I have written to most of our leaders. Even Senator Kennedy wrote about our cosmetics, etc. being more dangerous then tobacco. This can happen to anyone. I used all those products all my life, and now I can't. People that are sick have tried to work together to make change. People all over the world. Seems like they would listen to the warning signs. I think now they are in it so deep that they don't know what to do. Linda

Johnson & Johnson to cut up to 7 percent of global work force (Daily Finance)

Nov 3rd 2009 12:48PM Maybe if Johnson & Johnson would really go green and make their products safer than maybe they would make more profit. I used a lotion they had for over 25 years and all of a sudden they changed the formula. New and Improved-- but I can't use it. Many people have problems with many of the untested chemicals that are in many of our products. Even baby shampoo has chemicals that are not safe. The average person does not know that companies make several sets of products the safer products for the EU Government and the more chemical laced products for the US. Our gov't is talking about chemical reform which I hope will change some of these problems. Hopefully, but these things take a long time. Linda

Pediatricians Deny Link Between Food and Autism (ParentDish)

Jul 31st 2009 12:32PM I think Jenny used the yeast free diet which seems okay to me. I have to do that diet because I have one of those illnesses that most doctors don't know how to treat. There are many illnesses that doctors and the science still are behind in the times. Especially environmental illnesses. Doctors are usually not trained in environmental illnesses. I am ill from indoor mold and now have chemical type asthma, get migraines, vomiting when near everyday products such as any fragrance, detergents, soaps, etc. It has already been determined that our food, water, soil, products have a lot of chemicals that are not safe for us. Our government knows these problems. They have already said they can't guarantee our pharmaceuticals, food, etc. are safe. So if Jenny or any parent can see a big difference in their child when they are fed safer foods without all that sugar, etc. then go for it.

It is pretty bad that a soda has about 15 teaspoons of sugar. I use to give my daughter juices of all kinds and I heard not long ago that you shouldn't give juices because they have so much sugar. Instead of orange juice, eat an orange.

I would even watch what products you use because they do not test the chemicals that are in most of our cosmetics, soaps, cleaning products, fragrance which is in everything. You would not believe what is in most of our products. Even other countries have started regulating their products but the Bush Administration did not want our products tested for safety. You have to do whatever you can these days to stay safe. Most people don't know until something happens in your family and you start investigating and learn they are not looking out for us like we all thought. Linda

Barbara Walters May Have Killed Twitter After Talking About It on TV (Switched)

Problem Skin? It May Be Your Hair Products! (oldstylelist)

Apr 27th 2007 12:54PM I have reactive airways disease and I can't use anything with fragrance. Fragrance is in most products. There are millions of people all over the world that suffer from just shampoo, detergents, soaps, even baby products. These companies do not have to tell what goes into their formula to make fragrance. Other countries and California are trying to regulate their products. Here is an article from just yesterday where teens are rallying to get safer products. http://www.insidebayarea.com/oaklandtribune/localnews/ci_5742771 My biggest problem is I either get a migrane when near some products that other people use or sometimes it causes me asthma. I had no idea that our products were not safe until I got sick and there are so many children now with asthma, and fragrance is a trigger for many with asthma.
