10 Dirty Little Restaurant Secrets (Slashfood)
Sep 22nd 2009 12:50PM I work in a coffee shop/cafe right now, we would absolutely never "re-serve" food to our customers. The owners hold very high standards as to their food quality and presentation.
BUT, when I was in college, I worked at a different coffee shop/cafe...one evening, one of our "favorite" customers came in for dinner (one of those "ask for absolutely everything and then only leave the (coin) change from the ticket on the table as your tip" kind of patrons). He ordered a flat-bread pizza. On taking it out of the oven, the cook dropped it on the floor. Sauce side down. She put fresh cheese on it, popped it in the microwave long enough to melt it, and out it went to the table. The customer said it was the best meal he'd had at our restaurant, and left the biggest tip anyone had ever gotten from him...a whole dollar. Not to sound jaded, but some of these customers deserve the food they get in restaurants...to paraphrase the movie "Waiting"--don't mess with the people who prepare your food. ;)
Actor Bill Murray's Son Hired by Arizona as Graduate Assistant ... Which Is Nice (Fanhouse NCAA Basketball Blog)
Aug 26th 2009 1:40PM Ummm....actually, it says in the article that he is "joining the University of Arizona's basketball team as a graduate assistant."
So the reference to Space Jam *would* have been much more apropos.
Searching for 'Jessica Biel' Is Bad for Your Computer (Switched)
Aug 26th 2009 1:24PM I have Windows. Have Firefox. Have AVG. Have Spybot. I've been using computers since 1987 and have been getting on the "internet" since 1991. Still got a Trojan a couple of weeks ago, clicking on a link in Google search results (and I was looking for the lyrics to a song, not for any of these celebs). If you think that hackers aren't constantly coming up with new ways to infect other peoples' computers, you are living in a fantasy world. Constant vigilance and knowing what to do *after* your computer has been infected (as well as being able to recognize that it *has* been infected) is more important that what operating system you use or what software you have loaded.
'No Colors Allowed' Sign Sparks Controversy (BV Black Spin)
Aug 24th 2009 3:19PM Motorcycle gangs aren't the only ones who wear "colors"--and gangs was my first thought when I read what is on the sign. Bars & nightclubs in Ohio (where I grew up) regularly post signs banning "colors," especially in the form of hats and bandannas...some people will look for any excuse to whine in public about how oppressed they are...
Bizarre Game Leaves Phillies, Mets Asking, 'What Just Happened?' (Fanhouse - Lisa Olson)
Aug 24th 2009 12:24PM I also understood the article perfectly well, and I'm not even a baseball fanatic. Excellently written, it captured the excitement and confusion of this wild game perfectly...but I would imagine that was the point. Congratulations on accomplishing that goal, Ms. Olsen.
Those of you with an IQ lower than Pedro Martinez's batting average, please go study English reading comprehension instead of making fools of yourselves by letting us all know that you can't understand a simple article about sports...
A Rose a Day Keeps the Divorce Lawyer Away? (Lemondrop)
Aug 21st 2009 4:25PM "If you're dating us, replace the rose by the bedside with a big, fat, sprinkled donut. Now that'll make us a happy woman."
The point was, in MARRIAGE, he did not abandon romance. Your comment cheapens this article by placing it in the realm of "dating." It's easy for a guy who is "getting the milk for free" to make romantic gestures--I've had those relationships, and they have a life-span of about 5 years. It's difficult (and a testament to real, devoted, love) for someone to continue making those gestures for more than a half-century.
And if your sex partner (because that's what *you* are talking about, not a "life partner") put a donut by your bed every morning for 60 years, you'd be FAT, not happy. If you lived long enough to see your 60th anniversary.
Michelle Watch: An Inspired Tee (BV on Style)
Aug 17th 2009 3:34PM I'm 28, and I think this shirt is G-d-awful. My mother is 55 and wouldn't wear it either.
And I don't think the "inspiring" look was all that "elegant" either. Eclectic, maybe, but not in that "what an original, personally fashionable person" kind of way. More like when a person who buys all their clothes at J. Crew tries to put together an outfit without the help of catalog pictures.
