Six Subtle Moves That Hold Women Back From Success (AOL Jobs)

May 3rd 2010 12:05PM well good for you, Ms. Law enforcement officer. I think a gun and uniform offset a lot of body language. And I don't think this article was talking about body language to your clients/customers/citizens, etc. Instead it talks about how women impress those who are in a position to affect their careers and advancement or lack thereof. If you pull someone over and nod your head the whole time you are writing them a ticket, I don't think it really makes much difference. But if you are trying to impress your lieutenant . . .

Man Dumped Over Pre-Loaded Sexts on His Phone (Switched)

Feb 13th 2010 11:11AM It could have been innocent. He could have left the phone and was texting her to tell her to bring it, maybe her phone was busy, or he could have been expecting an important call and asked her to check his cell, him being unaware of the bad texts because he was a good guy.
I don't fault her for "snooping," as much as her for breaking up with him without having really good proof.
anyway, they are probably both better off without each other.

Want to Live Longer? Get Married! (Personal Articles)

Jan 13th 2010 10:39AM I just read another article that referred to books about how horrible marriage is for women (from the sixties and later) and I thought how funny it is. I am a middle-aged woman (hate that phrase) and I've been married twice. I'm not looking to get married but I am in a good relationship with a man about my age who's never been married and he talks about how he's avoided it, he's been "smart,' etc. It's funny that he thinks so poorly of it and has never tried it while I think it can be a really good thing. But I know it takes work and effort and some people think romance should be effortless. But the effort doesn't feel bad and it is so worth it, to see your lover's face light up when you've done something to please him. If you want it, work for it. the rewards far outweigh any other effort you'll make.

Trust issues with your GPS? You're not alone in the woods (WalletPop)

Dec 30th 2009 10:30AM I hate my GPS in my car. I'm middle-aged (I hate how one article labeled this couple elderly, they are in their mid sixties, that's elderly?) and all the younger people at my office rely heavily on their GPS systems to get them to unfamiliar locations. Our jobs require travel. I'm very familiar with the community, having lived in it for 30 years (see age isn't all bad) and I will put in the directions just to see what the GPS will do. It almost invariably will send me on a longer, less direct route. I used to think if you were totally lost they would be of some use but after this story I don't think that anymore.
Rand-McNally to the rescue, get a map, a piece of paper that requires reading and comprehending!
Nevermind, I guess I've lost today's computer generation.

Tiger Woods said to pay his wife millions to stick by him (Daily Finance)

Dec 4th 2009 11:37AM First I have to address Dang's comment, which is so poorly written I'm not sure if I really understood what he meant to say.
Dang, a quick course in first grade grammar might help with things like plural nouns; there is no such word as "wealths." Then you might look at verb and noun agreement and finally just because you put a comma between two phrases doesn't make them a sentence with meaning. If Tiger is as smart as you are, I guess I can see how he could make such a horrible error in judgment.
I am so disappointed in him. I don't even care about golf but it's sad to see another sports "hero," set a bad example.
Very sad.

Reese Witherspoon 'In Bloom' Perfume Giveaway (Stylelist)

Nov 5th 2009 11:38AM Maybe she will name her next scent "June," for her Oscar winning role in Walk the Line. The parfume could capture the passion and pain, the love and heartbreak that was the relationship between those two stars of the country music world. They loved each other so much that they died within a few months of each other, the one not being able to live without the other.

Beef industry gets a closer look as story of paralyzed woman hits the press (Daily Finance)

Oct 7th 2009 11:01AM everyone should watch the movie Food Inc. You will the sordid truth of how the food industry operates. Some people want to say that movie is exaggerating or that it's "greenies," with an agenda. But look at cases like this woman, paralyzed for life and then ask yourself, "does the food industry care about my health or my wealth?"

CNN Anchor Campbell Brown Says Moms Just Can't Do it All (ParentDish)

Aug 17th 2009 9:41AM "Balance" is a myth that is sold to working parents trying to fulfill the most basic desire in all life: survive and procreate.
America, with all its self congrats on how great a country this is (and I do love my country but I love my daughter too and I can admit that she has a quick temper and lacks patience) really misses the mark when it comes to supporting family life. The Republicans have co-opted family values as their platform, almost as if you are not a Republican, you are anti-family, but they are about as anti-family as you can get. Or anti-anything but their definition of family. Rabid anti-choicers, but when the precious, equal rights life arrives, it's up to him or her to fend for his or herself because forget a little help for mom and/or dad. And so it goes on up to adulthood.
But all else aside, having my daughter has been the greatest blessing in my life; I'd do it all over again and I wish I'd had more than her.

Who should pay $1.4 million tab for Jackson's funeral? (WalletPop)

Jul 15th 2009 11:14AM Asking if the city should pay for Michael's "funeral" expenses is misleading. The city is responsible for the costs of public safety, including traffic and crowd control. Should the city have just kept the regular staffing levels of police with the anticipated amount of visitors?
Is the city paying for the singer's burial plot, for his embalming services (or whatever term used to refer to that part of burial), the hearse, rent of the center for the memorial services? I think that must be clarified. As some else noted, he or she paid for his or her parents' services, so should the jackson family. but city employees should be paid by the city, and so on. If the staples center made money, maybe it should make some payment to the city.
