Most Killer Songs: No. 1 (Spinner)
May 18th 2010 11:16PM Since there seems to be no time limit on this 'killer song list' then I would induct the old folk tune, "Tom Duley" as done by the Kingstong Trio:
"Hang down your head Tom Duley,
Hand down your head and cry.
Hang down your head Tom Duley,
Oh boy you're bound to die...
"I met her at the river,
and there I took her life.
I met her at the river
(And) Stabbed her with my knife."
Many old folk songs, including originally from England, have macabre story lines, like "Hang Man" as sung by Led Zeppelin. Very old song. Still very chilling, too.
Most Killer Songs: No. 1 (Spinner)
May 18th 2010 11:03PM According to the music video I saw, Jeremy may have killed himself, but not before shooting every kid in his class, and the teacher! I showed this one to my husband, and he said, "Great! Now they're putting sick thoughts like that into kids' heads."
I replied that I thought it was already way too late for that, and predicted that such an act would happen for real not too far into the future. Two years later, Columbine happened. Creepy.
Most Killer Songs: No. 1 (Spinner)
May 18th 2010 10:48PM Actually, if you saw the video, (or at least the one I saw), Jeremy's 'spoken' was his shooting and killing every boy and girl in the class, including the teacher!
I pointed it out to my husband at the time, and he said "Great, now they're putting that kind of crap into kids' heads!"
I (prophetically???) told him that I thought it was already too late to put this sicko idea into some sick kid's head, and said, "Mark my word, it won't be long until some sick kid REALLY does it."
Two years later, Columbine happened.
Creepy.

The 25 Best Movie Remakes of All Time (Moviefone Blog)

Stella, please!!!! What are you saying?! The Day The Earth Stood Still remake was terrible. I can hardly believe they call it a remake. It was absolutely nothing like the original which is not a "cult" classic, it is simply a classic. It's message still rings true today. The remake didn't even have the speech at the end and didn't have the "Klaatu, Berada, Nikto" line! The remake was simply terrible

Sorry, Gary, but I really like BOTH versions. The messianic allusions to the original Klaatu (name, Carpenter; resurrection; judgement day)
Try seeing it again as an undated Klaatu, who has ALREADY decided the human race needs to be eradicated. Saved for the same inscrutable love that the Chinese man still felt for humanity, despite it's terrible flaws, Klaatu still warned there would be a price to pay, and I still often wonder what we would do if we were suddenly deprived of electricity, and what makes it. Yes, comparing the two does seem a bit of a stretch, and one cannot replace the other movie; but once I watched it, I knew I'd watch it again. Watched it three times already. (How many times have I watched the original? More times than I have fingers and toes!;D )
The 25 Best Movie Remakes of All Time (Moviefone Blog)
Apr 17th 2010 7:31PM I must beg to differ from this list, since it did not include the original 50's cult classic, "The Day The Earth Stood Still," and it's recent remake. I never thought anything could match Michael Renee and Patricia O'Neal's version (and I memorized: Gort, Klaatu Berata Nicto - when I was a kid cause Gort genuinely scared me!)
Since most remakes do suck, I was sure this one was to be a real eggsucker, too. However. . .as usual, the remake played loose with the main characters and the plot, but IT WORKED. No one was more surprised than me. I think it was direct-to-video movie, but if you're a Klaatu aficianado, look it up. . .it's worth it. (New one stars Keenu Reeves)
Put Your Home on an Energy Diet -- and Save (Shelterpop)
Apr 13th 2010 5:00PM This is lunacy! Whoever is reading this article should know that you should NEVER set your water heater below 140 degrees because it can become an incubator for 'unfriendly organisms'! Check with a real expert before you touch that dial!
Alicia Silverstone and Oprah Winfrey on Vegetarianism, Bowel Movements (VIDEO) (Inside TV Blog)
Jan 29th 2010 9:35PM I humbly stand corrected, Doc. My info came from the pharmacists I worked with, (I am forever asking re:anything!)and that wuz what they told me. Oh, well.......
But I still sure would like to know how to eat healthy on a small, fixed income. Food pantries load one up with starches, starches, fatty meat, and more starches. I don't think I'm too far off-topic on this, since there is not much help for a middle-aged widow in poor health and a crappy fixed income. I do try to buy fresh foods in season- like crates of Clementines when they are going for a song-- but sometimes weeks will go by when nothing is affordable for people like me. Add to that my allergy to wheat/wheat gluten, and a half-size loaf of rice bread costs over SIX DOLLARS per package, and we're talking about an exspensive diet....time for more baloney! Purina Dog Chow, here I come!
More on-topic, I am almost fifty lbs over-weight, and though most of that weight is beyond my control (due to weight-packing medicines, my bad back that is scarily close to paralyzing my left leg, middle-age spread) I do NOT think that giving workers an extra incentive to be more healthy is discriminatory...even though if I worked there, I couldn't get the extra discount. Weight-discrimination is a farce created by fatties to console themselves and their (unhealthy) lifestyles.
And as for admiring one's own poop---
Ewwwwww!
