Toshiba reneges on promise of free laptops and TVs if Spain win World Cup (Engadget)
Jul 14th 2010 7:37PM @Sepirioth This doesn't seem out of line to me. I bought an Asus laptop that came with a 3 year warranty on defects but in in order to get the additional 1 year accidental damage warranty (protection from spills, surge, drops) I had to register by mailing in a postcard.

Ask Engadget: best illuminated keyboard for the non-gamer? (Engadget)
Jun 10th 2010 11:15PM Saitek Eclipse II is about $30 on Amazon (I've used one for about 2 years, I love it). The optional wrist wrest is useful, but one of the legs that prop the keyboard up in the back has broken (was a little rough with it I suppose), so take that for what it's worth.
If you're looking for something a little sleeker, the Logitech Illuminated Ultrathin Keyboard (Model 920-000914) looks to be a good choice for $60, and has high customer reviews (4.5/5 stars) on Amazon.

You're probably the same kind of person who looks down their nose at someone who doesn't own a car that costs double someone's yearly salary or doesn't get their jeans tailored...
As someone who owns an Apple iPhone 3GS I can attest to the exreme usefulness of a smartphone, but I don't think I've ever belittled someone who either chose not to spend that much on a phone/data plan or couldn't afford to do so. You should be ashamed of yourself.
Sprint's iPad '4G case' features an Overdrive pocket, oodles of irony (Engadget)
Apr 17th 2010 1:37AM @rgreen: no it looks like the case is only for customers who bought the Overdrive at Best Buy. If you bought your MiFI at Best Buy, they might be nice and give you one? Who knows, can't hurt to ask.
Sprint's iPad '4G case' features an Overdrive pocket, oodles of irony (Engadget)
Apr 17th 2010 1:36AM http://reviews.sprint.com/5611v2/248/overdrive-3g-4g-mobile-hotspot-by-sierra-wireless-reviews/reviews.htm
From the site: The Overdrive has a 4.9/5 rating on Sprint's site and 97% (37/38) of customers would recommend it to a friend.
That's a pretty dang good endorsement, IMHO. I've not gotten the pleasure of trying Sprint's 4G service, but if it comes to my neck of the woods, I'd definitely give it a shot.
One point: an iPad 3G woudln't be required, you could just get the cheaper model and use the Overdrive to supply the wi-fi.

Oct 29th 2009 12:49AM Me too. I have an iPhone 3gs, but this Blackberry should help Verizon attract a lot of smartphone customers if it's as snappy is it looks in the commercial.
Verizon chief says offering the iPhone is Apple's call (Engadget)
Oct 26th 2009 11:20PM My prediction: The iPhone 4G will be released for both AT&T and Verizon on their LTE networks. People will continue to try and unlock the iPhone 4G for T-Mobile because their plans are cheaper :)
Windows 7 student upgrade installer not working for many (Engadget)
Oct 24th 2009 8:34AM http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/30470-make-bootable-iso-student-d-l-42.html
That's the site I found which explains how to create the .ISO file. Once that's done, create your bootable disc.
I required installation onto an empty hard drive because I was switching from Vista Ultimate 32-bit to 7 Professional 64-bit.
After running into the activation snafu, I wound up on the phone with Microsoft for about an hour until I found a tech who knew what to do. He walked me through a registry edit and some command line code (wish I had taken some screen shots, sorry!), after which the activation (using an upgrade activation code) worked for my clean installation.
Hope a better fix comes out soon, good luck to everyone trying to do a clean install with an upgrade copy of Windows 7.

Sep 9th 2009 5:57PM Sweet! Gotta love living in Houston. 3G coverage is actually pretty good here, looking forward to the 7.2 mbps bump!
