The pump is driven by an electric motor, with brushes and commutator, which produce a constant spark as it runs. The fuel tank has an atmosphere of fuel vapors and a little bit of air, but in every case, the atmosphere is way too rich to burn.

Feb 4th 2008 3:19PM I finally got AT&T to let me start using my Motorola V600 again. I bought it from the original AT&T and was told I can't use it on Cingular's network. But they finally relented, and I'm happy again.

Dec 3rd 2007 12:09PM To have Herr Rove opine about strategies to steal elections is dispicable. He needs to crawl back under the rock he came out from under and never be heard from again. Shunning him for the rest of his life (funded, by the way, at government expense) would be thr right thing to do. The best Democratic ticket would be Clinton/Obama with Bill Clinton thrown in for good measure. Only then will we get out of the Bush Quagmire and get this country back on the high ground. It's time to start prosecuting the greedy Republicans.

Oct 7th 2007 8:38AM I agree with the assessment on Viet Nam. At the same time, Fidel Castro appealed to the US State Department to help deal with Batista in Cuba. The State Department refused, and Castro turned to the USSR. Simple as that. Sadly, there has been zero change at the State Department -- it staunchly defends the status quo all over the world -- and that's what gets us in trouble. The tin-horn cowboy currently occupying the White House hasn't helped, either.

Aug 11th 2006 9:35PM He doesn't look like the kind of guy that would try to destroy an American company that has done all the work to get the Smart Car approved for sale in the US, but he is. First he tells ZAP Cars that the Smart Car will not be sold in the US. ZAP spends $20 million getting the car approved, then Dr. Z decided to give the franchise to Penske and reneg on the deal with ZAP. What gives? What ever happened to business ethics, Dr. Z?
