Quebec to offer plug-in vehicle rebates of up to C$8,000 (Autoblog Green)
Apr 11th 2011 4:07PM Meh, I figured you were joking after that much daming.
Quebec to offer plug-in vehicle rebates of up to C$8,000 (Autoblog Green)
Apr 11th 2011 3:47PM Remember that almost anything used to generate electricity uses a decent amount of concrete as a foundation so when all is said and done I'd bet a dam comes way ahead in the CO2 department. Also, consider that the dams provide nearly all the electricity needed in Quebec so it's a lot cleaner in the grand scheme than coal (or anything else, really).
I wish the U.S. would do a higher rebate (Yes, I know some states do additional rebates but mine doesn't) as C$8000 is currently $8364 according to XE.com. If the rebate is still around when Model S comes out that's almost a "free" 230-mile upgrade.
Nissan says government should put up charging stations if it's serious about EVs (Autoblog Green)
Apr 9th 2011 8:23PM I agree with you and wonder how many charging stations could be built across America with the $3.6 Billion in tax breaks the oil industry is getting in 2011 as well as the $46B though the decade:
http://blogs.abcnews.com/thenote/2011/03/no-apologies-rep-barton-defends-tax-breaks-for-big-oil.html
Also, what would happen with battery technology if all that oil money was put into battery research? One can only wonder.
Is the Wave Disk Generator engine the wave of the future? [w/video] (Autoblog Green)
Apr 9th 2011 2:17PM @2 Wheeled Menace, there will still be oil left in 2076?!

Report: FIA president Jean Todt interested in new electric F1 series (Autoblog Green)
Apr 5th 2011 2:24PM Right now there isn't enough range for a full-fledged F1 race but that's why their starting small in karting and other areas that *can* take advantage of current batteries.
That being said getting F1 involved can only lead to better, faster advancements in EV technology.
Top Gear presents its side of story about Tesla Roadster [w/video] (Autoblog)
Apr 4th 2011 5:16PM Except the fact that the batteries in a laptop aren't climate controlled and are exposed to a lot of the heat from the CPU and GPU. They are also usually run at a 100% charge (while plugged in) and then drained almost (or completely) dead.
On the other hand the Roadster batteries are liquid-cooled at all times so they stay at a constant temperature. The software also limits the charge, under normal conditions, to 90% of capacity which helps further extend their life.
Is Tesla a takeover target? Elon Musk says probably not (Autoblog Green)
Apr 1st 2011 12:46PM I don't see Tesla as any more of a take over target than any other public company. They have great technology but if any company really wanted to take them over it would have been done already.
As for their survival, obviously Model S comes first but as long as Tesla can get BlueStar and/or Model X out the gate they should be fine.
Tesla shares skyrocket on Morgan Stanley's "overweight" rating (Autoblog Green)
Mar 31st 2011 4:11PM That is probably true but with nations like China using more and more gasoline every day prices probably won't drop below $3 (even in the U.S.) for an extended period of time ever again.
