Son Goes to Camp, Dad Cries (ParentDish)

Jul 5th 2010 3:56PM I can understand the animosity found by having your son go off for four weeks (especially if it is his first time) but from a developmental stage, Americans tend to be a little behind on the maturity factor that accompanies the rest of the world. In China it isn't odd for businessmen to send their children to preschools (which also act as boarding schools) for a week at a time starting as early as 5.

In fact, the independent attitudes children adopt in Japan increase their maturity at an accelerated rate. Normally, children are allowed to go out and about on their own as early as 6 to go to a friends house, even in a city. Many students who just begin high school even have their own apartments in order to make it an easier journey between "home" and school. I think that while sending a 9 year old out on his own for such an extended time seems a bit intense .. that it will actually pay off in the end.

'Breach' game code theft at PAX East ends in arrest [update] (Joystiq)

Mar 31st 2010 12:12AM Do you even see his body language during the panel? He isn't even facing the speakers. He's half-turned and constantly looking at the ground or away from them completely. It's perfectly evident he was lying in regards to any type of innocence and it shows he is untrustworthy and dishonest in general. He has a demure, reclusive tone of voice which normally comes from somebody who has no strength behind his words due to either not believing them or because he's unsure of himself.

Rumor: Developers describe the Wii successor for 2011 (Joystiq Nintendo)

Oct 10th 2008 10:33AM Nintendo never "scoffed" at such ideas. They merely wished to take a different route. But as it is, they are still a company at heart. What they did with the Wii was they got a new, huge fanbase loaded for them. Millions of people who never played games now do. Step one, complete. Now they have to secure and hold onto their fanbase, while still keeping in stride with the "hardcore" gamers. Which would be step two, with this. It never was that Nintendo looked down on HD .. they just felt other things were more important, at the time. But why not have the best of both worlds, if you can?

DS Daily: Still going to import one? (Joystiq Nintendo)

Oct 8th 2008 6:40PM I won't be importing it, .. but I never planned to. I don't really see the big problem with DSI games being region-locked. It's not as if the moment DSI games come out that DS ones will disappear forever. I have a feeling that DS is going to still be the main format for the DS, and DSI is going to be for games that require other features to be used. Not to mention that I only import a small amount of games, as I enjoy RPG's and .. I can't really read hiragana or katakana (or kanji) too well. I do feel for the European market that import games from the US but .. thankfully I'm in the US. I think the cameras, internet, SD card slot, and DSware are going to make up for lack of GBA slot. Especially since I would (and I dont see why others wouldnt) keep their DSLite for anything that I would need GBA-to-DS functionality for. Trade Pokemon from GBA to DS on my Lite, then switch the game over to the other system. No big deal.

Study Finds Virtual Worlds Offer Good Real-World Lessons for Kids (Switched)

May 27th 2008 3:22AM Don't beat yourself up about it. Any game is going to allow your kid to see the consequence of different choices, .. and if you raise him correctly, then he'll be able to judge these consequences of their own accord. Even in shooting games, the choices you make, good or bad, reflect on the game-play. If your kid is playing Call of Duty online, the best plan is to work as a team, develop a strategy, and problem solve, .. even if the conclusion is the enemy getting shot. Just because a game is violent, it doesn't necessarily show a "bad" image. This is just where parenting steps in, letting him know virtual violence is different than real violence. But just by playing those games, they'll increase their capacity to solve real life problems, intelligently.

Kid Sells Video Games, Then Donates Proceeds to Hillary's Campaign (Switched)

May 27th 2008 3:09AM Well, I think the kid would be more heartbroken if she didn't accept the check. This kid obviously believes in Hillary's campaign and wanted to support her any way he could. If she simply said, "No thanks. You keep it." the kid would be devastated. Much more so than if he didn't have a bike or video games.

Romantic Geek Proposes Via Homebrew DS Game (Switched)

Mar 8th 2008 2:00PM So I have to come up with something even dorkier now? God, .. what does a guy have to do now-a-days?!

Well, .. congrats. You found a girl that actually likes Bejeweled .. that in itself is a feat! Now you just have'ta hold onto her!

Guide to Concert Etiquette: Rule 7 (Spinner)

Jun 16th 2007 10:45PM Rules not to have a good time? No. These are more rules on "how not to be a jerk at concerts."

If you're unable to be hated by those around you at a concert, somethings the matter with you.

Guide to Concert Etiquette: Rule 8 (Spinner)

Jun 16th 2007 10:41PM You guys are acting like the rule says, "When at a concert, don't interact with your boyfriend/girlfriend." First off, is making out all you can do to show you're together? Secondly, .. these rules are for etiquette. Etiquette is used for the good of people around you, .. because it is both annoying and nauseating when you're trying to watch the band and two people are going at it in front of you.

Should we consider the PSP dead? (Joystiq)

Aug 2nd 2006 12:38AM I find it funny that the only way people support a gaming system is by saying it can do other things than gaming.

PSP is a portable gaming system. If it fails at gaming, then it fails. Don't care if you can listen to the "newest beats" or download "sweet videos". It's failed as a gaming system.

That is unless it kicks in soon, and show's us some gaming the likes of which we've never seen.
