In Defense of Draco Malfoy (Moviefone Blog)
Nov 21st 2010 2:57AM I have to disagree with this article. If I only have the 2 choices I vote he's evil. In real life, he is grey leaning towards dark ( no pun intended. Seriously.)Here's why.
No matter how badly a person is brought up, ultimately one is responsible for one's own actions. Yes, he was brought up to depise "mudbloods" and has less respect for "muggles." Yes, he was upstaged by Potter's arrival, as were a lot of students. Few others viewed Potter as a direct threat, though. Some admired Potter, some were even afraid of him; few others actually hated him. That was a choice.
That hatred spilled over to anyone and everyone that did not view Potter as Malfoy did, and with each opportunity he sought in his own small ways means to hurt them as well.
Yet in the end, Malfoy DID regain his humanity, when the stakes became life and death.Should he be commended for that choice? Certainly. But to say he was "good" all along? Absolutely not.

Study: Some Women Born to Be Bad Mothers (AOL Health)
Mar 29th 2010 10:38PM These people have WAY too much time on their hands. ANOTHER "study" where the so-called researchers MAY have a group of 20 to 100 people and SURPRISE! find out something no one else has discovered and apply their "findings" to the larger population. Basically Dr. Kingsley and his staff need to justify their salaries and get their budgeting approved for the next fiscal year, so they apparently have to try to make profound discoveries. File this one under "Epic Fail".
Opinion: Proms Should Not Include Dates (ParentDish)
Mar 23rd 2010 11:51AM The idea of a 'no-date' prom is just one more in a series of "ideas" that think children, or in this case teenagers, should be sheltered from anything and everything that might upset them or hurt their feelings. As a parent of three I can tell you from experience that children and teenagers do not like everything required of them, from going to bed on time, to doing their homework, to doing chores, to getting jobs, so their feelings should not be the standard. In this particular situation the author reasons the young woman was banned because of her choice of her date, so let's simply ban ALL dates! Umm....no. That is avoidance, not a solution. While I personally oppose the notion that homosexuality should be accepted, I also believe that if there was no legal precedent (from the state level, not the school district) the prom should not have been cancelled or the young woman and her date should not have been banned. I also understand that it is very easy to "Monday morning quarterback" and say from a "lofty" position of hindsight what the school SHOULD have done, but it seems to me they reasoned it was better to upset ALL the students rather than single out one. In the end, it seems, no one "won": the student body as a whole was angered and/or hurt and the school is still facing a lawsuit.
Health Crisis Pushed Keith to Shed 200 Pounds (That's Fit)
Oct 12th 2009 3:00AM I had my own battle with weight. I moved to San Antonio in 2006 and started leading an extremely sedentary lifestyle. That, coupled with drinking a 12 pack of beer per day caused me to balloon up to 355 pounds. Then in August of 2008 I was rushed to the hospital and after a chaotic fight on the doctor's' part, I was diagnosed with Type II diabetes. They told me afterwards that if I had waited 6 more hours, I would not have made it, as my blood sugar was over 640. I did not know I was diabetic. That close brush with death did several things at once: it made me reevaluate my life, caused me to change my diet and for some reason made alcohol unpalatable. I can no longer stomach the smell of alcohol, let alone drink it.
Today I weigh 260 pounds, my waist went from a 48 to 39, and I am still losing on average 10 pounds a month. I would not wish the methods on anyone, but I have to say diabetes has been one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

Luv Coach Q&A: Two Women Caught Up (Blackvoices Main)
Jun 6th 2008 4:15PM How did we become so politically-correct that a man and a woman can be involved in adultery, yet the woman be given "advice" to "visualize and construct the type of friendship you would like to have with this man." I have a "visual construction" for you: QUIT being a thief, find your OWN husband, stay AWAY from the family you helped destroy. As for that "man", do you really think that if he was unfaithful to his wife, he'd be true to you? Are you really that stupid? Here's another thought to keep you warm at night: STDs like HIV, AIDS, Hep C. There's nothing beautiful or romantic or redeeming about sneaking around with another's husband or wife, no matter what kind of lofty words a person uses to describe their feelings. You can always find someone, like this so-called "Luv Coach", who will tell you that it's okay to have a friendship with this man, but the reality that she and a great many deny is that the pain, heartbreak and guilt that happens as a result of such actions are intense, sometimes to the point of suicide.
As long as we are alive, we can be redeemed through the forgiveness of the Lord Jesus. But the first step is admitting that everything about the affair was wrong; he was wrong, you were wrong. Admit it, repent, seek forgiveness, receive forgiveness, move on. Very likely, the Lord has someone He wants you to meet, but you will not meet your soulmate while trying to steal someone else's.

Comebacks we'd like to see: #1 -- The Far Side (WalletPop)
May 16th 2008 2:18PM My all-time favorite is the one where it's a miltary operations room; officers are walking by, everyone is working on computers or reading reports. Right in the middle of the room, in front of one computer operator, is this HUGE button that takes up half the wall. The operator is seated there, staring wistfully up at it, and the caption reads," one day, Harold knew he was just going to have to push that big button."
