The 20 Worst Charities in America, According to Oregon's Attorney General (WalletPop)

Dec 21st 2010 1:21AM Goodwill Industries is a non-profit charitable organization. It's mission is to help disabled and differently abled people gain employment and learn valuable life skills. They do operate thousands of retail stores that sell goods that are donated to them, but 87% of those revenues go directly back to funding the core mission goals.

If you were confused that when you donate clothes and shoes to Goodwill that they would be given directly to the poor, then that is your own fault. The clothes and other items are sold at very cheap prices to poor people by workers that are learning valuable life skills in the process.

Nobody is getting rich off of Goodwill. It isn't a for-profit business as you claim. It isn't owned by anyone. It's registered with the IRS as a charity. Go to IRS.gov and verify.

5 Popular Facebook Scams (and How to Avoid Them) (Switched)

Sep 20th 2009 11:06PM Bearded hipsters? Really? Half of them are gay and the other half aren't real good at picking up women.

If you insist on using this analogy of bar rats chasing women at least use the example of the hypersexual d-bag Affliction / Ed Hardy / Tap Out t-shirt wearer, whose shirt is two sizes to small. These clowns that feel the need to pull up their tight shirts to show their abdominal muscles at every bar they walk into screaming "I spend all my free time at the gym" and "I'm kind of a big deal around here".

Both analogies suck but picking on bearded hipsters is completely offbase.

Smiley Face Atheists: Survey Finds Non-Believers to Be Upbeat (Politics Daily)

Aug 8th 2009 12:29AM Liberalism has nothing to do with athiesm or the Raelian church that
the people in the picture above represent.

I'm a very conservative person (as in, I want more freedom and less
gov't interference, and a much smaller federal government). I
think we should balance the budget and decrease the total spending
dramatically.

I am also a rational thinking person that knows that belief in the
Christian Mythology is just as preposterous as believing in Greek
Mythology, Norse Mythology, or Islamic Mythology.

The problem with the Republican party now is that they have been
co-opted by religious fanatics (the Christian Taliban) who pronounce themselves as conservative, but really like to spend far more money than Clinton and Carter ever dreamed of spending

Smiley Face Atheists: Survey Finds Non-Believers to Be Upbeat (Politics Daily)

Aug 7th 2009 11:59PM @The Chemist: The point is that there is a common misconception, often spouted by Christian fundamentalists, that atheists are a bunch of dour unhappy sourpusses that live their miserable lives in a state of depression.

The article points out that it isn't necessary to believe in one or more invisible sky faeries in order to lead a happy and fulfilling life.

Maybe if more children learned that, they wouldn't end up donating 10% of their income and their lives to Jim and Tammy Bakker, The Church of Scientology, The Vatican or the hundreds of thousands of other frauds that purport to represent the wishes of the invisible sky faerie(s).

Aug 7th 2009 11:53PM The people pictured above may or may not be "acting gay" (and I don't really care if they are or not), but they are not Atheists. They are Raelians, a UFO/Space Alien Religion, as you can tell from their shirts that have the website RAEL.ORG on it. Visit that site (or the wikipedia entry on Rael) and then explain how these folks are athiests.

Smiley Face Atheists: Survey Finds Non-Believers to Be Upbeat (Politics Daily)

Aug 7th 2009 11:40PM Do you believe in Zeus, Apollo, Thor, Ra, Jupiter, or Ares? What? You think believe in those Gods is silly? Do you believe there are thousands of Gods that created the Universe? No? You think that's silly?

So you deny thousands of Gods exist? Then you are only different from an athiest in that the athiest just doesn't believe in 1001 imaginary unproven faeries floating around in space, while you don't believe in 1000 imaginary unproven faeries.

If you really examined why you don't believe in Thor, Zeus, or Allah (with Mohammed as his prophet), and applied those same reasons to your Christian God, then you'd be an atheist as well.

Barbara Boxer: Please Call Me 'Senator' (Politics Daily)

Jun 18th 2009 11:50AM Who gives a rats patootie? Of all the things to criticize Barbara Boxer on, the fact that she prefers to be called by the title she earned rather than ma'am is the least important.

Republicans and Democrats all have their failings as people and its beyond silly to continue to suggest every time any stupid thing happens that the entire party is someone responsible for the failings of one person.

When Republican Larry Craig solicited gay sex that wasn't an indictment of the entire Republican Party. When Republican Senator Ensign cheated on his wife with his best friends wife, nobody of consequence suggested that Republicanism in general was responsible.

When people comment that "all libtards (or rightards) are like this", it just demonstrates how ignorant and hateful they are.

Use some critical thinking. Focus on the real issues.

This year we are spending more money than any year in history. Don't be distracted by silly stories like focus. Demand more from your reporters.

TomKat to Make Beautiful Music Together? (Cinematical)

Dec 3rd 2006 9:26PM The reason that Church of Scientology is bad is not because it has weird beliefs. Nearly ever religion has a bunch of odd concepts that its adherents are to take on faith.

The Church of Scientology is bad because is systematically defrauds and abuses people. The Church of Scientology is bad because it advocates lying. The Church of Scientology is bad because it advocates the use of Fair Game against its critics. The Church of Scientology is bad because it destroys families. The Church of Scientology is bad because it teaches it members (like Lisa McPherson and Ellie Perkins) that Scientology can cure mental illness. Belief in Scientology led both women to their deaths.

Believe in purple unicorns from Venus, or burning bushes, or what-have-you.

But when your organization hurts people then it should be exposed.
