Jan 27th 2010 9:25AM I'm an American and I speak 4 languages fluently. La razon mayor por que los Americanos no hablan mas de una sola idioma es porque no necesitan hablar mas que simplemente ingles. Al norte esta Canada, un pais que habla principalmente ingles, y al sur esta Mexico. Para los hispanos que vienen aqui, es mas conveniente que los hispanos aprendan ingles. Si los Americanos decidieran mudarse a Mexico o Puerto Rico, seria mas conveniente para ellos aprender espanol. Los hispanos no deverian de quejarse porque por lo menos tienen la oportunidad de hablar DOS idiomas.

Claro siempre es mejor hablar mas idiomas, algo que yo se muy bien. Y si seria bueno si mas Americanos decidieran aprender por lo menos un idioma mas, especialmente espanol, pero yo digo que es sentido comun que ingles sea el idioma oficial de los Estados Unidos.

Jan 27th 2010 8:59AM I speak spanish, portuguese, and german fluently. English is my first language. I've undertaken to become an expert at linguistics. Ahem. If I can learn these languages living in the United States of America, BELIEVE ME, anyone can learn english living in an ENGLISH SPEAKING COUNTRY!

English is not even the official language of this country and I don't understand why!! What were are founding fathers thinking?!! What is congress thinking?!! English is simply the most widely spoken language here and spanish comes in a not-too-distant second place. And with the fertility rate imbalanced, it may even be a matter of time before spanish becomes the most widely spoken language here. And when that happens ladies and gentlemen rest assured that there will be daily protests to make spanish the official language de los Estados Unidos.
Oh and btw, citizens of the United States of America are referred to as Americans because this is the only country in the Americas that uses the name "America" in its national title. Republica de Colombia de America? Nope. Republica Federativa do Brasil do America? Nope. The United States of AMERICA. Bingo!
