Friendly's New Burger Takes On The Double Down (Slashfood)
Jun 24th 2010 3:39PM "People need to not just look at numbers, they need to put those numbers into perspective to other things OF EQUAL WEIGHT. Yeah, a salad might have less calories, but how much salad do you have to eat in order to be full for the rest of the day, or hell even for an hour? A Whopper Jr might have less fat, but you need to eat 3-4 to get the same amount of food as this."
This argument doesn't represent some more enlightened perspective-- it represents knowing *nothing* about *how to eat* healthily.
One meal-- whether it's salad or an abominaburger-- aren't *supposed* to make you "full for the rest of the day." That's why you have never and will never hear any responsible, knowledgable dietician talking about "one square meal per day."
And "3-4 [Whopper Jrs] to get the same amount of food as this?" Nobody is *suppose* to eat as much food as that in one sitting. It's not how human bodies work! We're healthiest when we're eating (nutritious) foods in modest servings throughout the day-- big(ish) breakfast, snack, medium-sized lunch, snack, modest supper, snack. But when you have one massive dose of calories for the day and then count on it to keep you feeling "full" your body actually goes into 'food-must-be-scarce' mode and starts stockpiling every calorie it can as fat to sustain you when you start starving. This is basic stuff!
If the attitude or the information level that your post suggests is common then no wonder more and more people are in such a pitiable state, and no wonder this cardiac event on a bun has people defending it.
Friendly's New Burger Takes On The Double Down (Slashfood)
Jun 24th 2010 3:08PM Really, America? Really? You know, there are much faster and cheaper ways to kill yourself. A one-time purchase of about 10 ft of rope, or a free elevator ride to the top of a tall building with roof access, or even a grocery bag and a belt to tie it off 'round your neck; each of those would leave a lot more money for your funeral expenses, especially once you factor in the extra savings from avoiding the piano-sized coffin and crane rental you'd need if you did it using these fat-suspended sodium bombs.
The double-down and now this-- it's like sociopaths have taken over the food industry and they're morphing it into an assisted-suicide franchise; they might as well re-name these restaurants "Kevorkian's"
Scandalized by the Web: College Sports Edition (Switched)
Oct 19th 2009 2:33PM Really? A picture of a college athlete drunk constitutes a "scandal?" What's next? "Shocker! UCLA Quarterback sleeps naked!" "National disgrace: in the privacy of their locker room basketball team members caught uttering naughty words, like everyone else does all the time!" "Tragedy! The world mourns lost innocence-- young high-performance athletes under pressure act like human beings!" For goodness' sakes, someone fetch the smelling salts! Ladies and men alike are being overcome!
This kind of holier-than-thou sanctimonious gossip-mongering says far worse about the "news people" tattling about it and the audience consuming it than it does about the individuals in question. If liquor's so immoral in the public eye then where's the populist demand for another round of prohibition? Oh, it's not that big a deal? Then shut up about it. Stop gawking. Tend to your own house-- maybe start by taking your kids' cell phones away so they aren't featured in tomorrow's headline about jr. high school sexting-- instead of moralizing about what everyone else is doing. This is just modern puritanism run amok.
Lionhead forum users complain of Fable II freezing issues (Joystiq Xbox)
Jan 6th 2009 5:19PM My F2 is freezing the console *constantly!* If I don't save after ever tiny, insigf**kingnificant thing I lose even more time (on top of re-start and intro screens) just re-doing the same crap over and over. We should flood them with returns until they get their s**t together and release a patch or something to fix it, my cursing is starting to scare the kids.
