Top 10 Rules We Wish Airlines Would Enforce (AOL Travel News)

Apr 7th 2010 11:02PM Pretty good list, but good luck trying to enforce those rules.
But here's my nomination for #A1 Airlines' Stupidity: CHARGING FOR CHECKED BAGGAGE, then allowing slobs to stuff everything in the overhead racks to avoid the charge.
They should do just the opposite: CHARGE FOR ANY BAG CARRIED ON BOARD BY SIZE (AND/OR WEIGHT), let the checked bag go free if within the size or weight limit. The biggest bottleneck in loading these aluminum tubes with 200 or so people is the overhead racks, not the baggage compartment!

The five worst US airlines (Gadling)

Jan 21st 2008 1:14AM Wake up all you devoted travelers!
You are the ones who supported the low-cost carriers when the US Government dropped the Airline regulatory responsibility. Up until that time, flying was a supreme pleasure, and at fares that were consistent with that premium mode of travel. Shortly after that happenend the airlines and the Airplane manufacturers figured out how to stuff 300 or 400 people into one of those 12 foot diameter tubes, and then priced the seats lower than Amtrak or Greyhound. So now your choices are primarily in deciding which bankrupt airline to go with, and it is just a simple fact of life that one of the poorly managed ones (US Airways, actually, but it could be any of the other big boys) gets the worst ratings, but so be it.
However, there are two exceptions! And they are both making money, flying good airplanes and doing so with employees who smile, actually enjoy their work, and do a terriffic job in all areas, including reservations, boarding, luggage, and on-time schedules. This could be said of no other US carriers except Southwest and Jet Blue.
Maybe if these other carriers forced theit own executives and managers to fly on Southwest or Jet Blue, they might wake up and see what it takes to run an airline. I'm sure that Kelleher has flown on all of their's to see how NOT to run his.

HP's New '70s-Style Retro Calculator (Switched)

Jul 13th 2007 3:38PM WOW !!
I had them all. First the 35, then the 45, then the 65, then a 41, followed by the C and V versions. Best one of the whole bunch was the 41 CX with the card reader strip, and the printer jack.
I still have that 41 but sadly it quit working several years ago, and I could never find anyone, including HP, who would, or could, service it.
Does anyone out there know who could get my old 41 working??? Maybe, with newly spiked interest in the (new) 35, HP will come to their senses, now that Carly is mercifully gone, and re-instate a service to do so.
Any ideas??

Rosie & Co. Do the Trump-Over (AOL Video Blog)

Mar 15th 2007 8:05AM What could anyone else say that hasn't been said 1000 times? I too would like to see Rosie disappear, but I would like to see the whole TV enchilada of this type of progtamming go with her, forever! But obviously, as long as the network(s) support this stuff with advertising revenue, it ain't going to happen, because it is equally obvious that the fading literacy and intelligence of our 300 million population is declining faster than literacy and civility can counter. Welcome to the fourth world (we've already gone by the third).
