Sexy New 'iPod of Thermostats' Is Geeky on the Inside (AOL Real Estate)

Dec 29th 2011 2:20AM You must be pretty young to not know the business of "Supply & Demand" or one of those consummate bargain buyers who have forgotten what it is like to occasionally buy a new gadget.

Another side effect of the throw-away-society we now live, and are entrenched in. Aside from it just being a high-priced gizmo, for the gizmo enthusiasts (and readers of Popular Mechanics)
EVERY new gadget; especially technology, and if it is worth its weight, is ALWAYS expensive - when it takes off, price comes down. Once the patent runs out, Bargain Prices are realized. When I was in high school, Texas Instruments came out with the portable hand held calculator, it was as big and bulky as a 14 oz bottle, was heavy, (for the geeks it had a belt clip!)
could run on batteries, or plug in, and cost $250.00 smackeroos!! Now you can get one the size of a credit card at 99 cents.

Obese passenger forces neighbor on US Airways flight to stand for 7 hours (Gadling)

Nov 23rd 2011 7:34PM I just popped a letter off to customer.relations@usairways.com

I just read about the passenger who had to stand the whole way on a flight from Alaska to the east coast because of an obese passenger.

While I understand that it was impossible for anyone to have been prepared for such an issue with an obese person having to have affected the convenience of another customer, I know there really was not much for your crew to do about the situation. (I am assuming the plane was booked solid)

What I find very distasteful is your lack of appreciation for the severity of the situation as demonstrated by the pawltry compensation you offered to this poor passenger.

We are not talking about a delayed, or cancelled flight that would warrant what you would consider to be "fair compensation." I know you probably have your policies to give such low amounts for compensation; which really is just giving SOMETHING to appease an angry customer to bring their issue to a close, but for special situations - like this, being offered to him what you did is truly poor Customer Service on your part!

Considering the state of companies & the economy these days, some companies are now understanding that the best way for them to stay competitive and make money is all in giving EXCELLENT Customer Service. It is not just about low prices for quality items or service, it is HOW they handle a customer who ends up having a legitimate issue or problem.

If I had been that man, not only would I have turned down your idea of a "fair compensation" I would have promptly looked for a good attorney to sue you, and with no settlement to keep it from going to court!!!

THE BEST customer service you could have given him was giving a voucher for the FULL PRICE of his fare for a future flight; whether it was a one way or roundtrip. THAT would have been the most fair and decent thing to have done! Plus, you would have, in Mr Berkowitz's eyes, shown that you really DO care about your customers, and not only would you not have lost a customer who would have considered using you exclusively for all his travel needs, but by word of mouth, you might have gained new customers who would have swayed in your direction just because of the idea that above other airlines, you demonstrate that level of customer service that puts them ahead of your perceived greed rather than their best interest.

I have had the pleasure, and displeasure of working in customer service for some major companies, and I Know what I am talking about! Policies are fine, but THEY CAN BE BROKEN in some small extrordinary circumstances - like this one!!!

You companies just don't get it, and continue in your own little unflexible, boxed way of operating. You do not have to change your policies, but you can change your management in charge of customer service!! And if you think this incident went unnoticed by other passengers who were appalled, and can see themselves in Mr. Berkowitz's shoes, there you have more potential future loss! Any business will tell you that one of the most powerful tools for attracting, and retaining customers is WORD-OF-MOUTH!

In a nutshell, this man got screwed, and when seeking satisfaction, you basically screwed him again, but this time with a little soft background music. So get off the stick, offer this guy full compensation with an apology, and in the future do the right thing, and not wait to do it until you get a black eye from bad PR, and loss of future customers!!!

Yours,
Andre Vaughn

Mar 24th 2011 1:51AM She had a great talent, very big philanthropist, and a mother of 4 children whom she managed to keep out of the limelight & tabloids most of their lives. THESE are her true legacies!

The rest is what you deal with in what life throws at us!

Amazing how ignorant AOL writer's are again...Taylor did not have "Blue Eyes" she was blessed with the distinction of having been born with "violet eyes." Can you EVER get any facts straight??!!

Lady Gaga Promotes Safe Sex With Condom Dress (AOL Music Blog)

Feb 18th 2011 12:32AM Almost ANYTHING it takes to grab the attention of our youth to get them to protect themselves if they insist on having sex I am for it. It is bad enough to have girls having a child The many STD's are on the rise again, and the MAJORITY of new cases of HIV for the last 5 years are women of color. People like Sherry and Harris have probably never, or won't even have that frank discussion, or an ongoing open dialogue about about sex. Where else are young people gonna learn?
From each other. Parents don't want to do it. Many of them can't even show a good example, but yet they don't want the schools to do it either.

Lastly, who are you to be so judgemental about someone whose artistry you can't comprehend? Aside from you thinking she is "Nasty" she is a pretty good singer!

Best and Worst Cell Phones: GoodGuide's Exclusive Ratings (WalletPop)

Feb 14th 2011 11:34PM Ever since I joined Nextel back in 2001, I have only owned Motorola, and I have been very pleased with them. In fact, my current Motorola Razor, I have now had for 4 years. I can't tell you how many times it has been dropped, sat on, etc... with no issues.

Over a year ago, a freak fire accident actually burned the phone on the back, fusing the battery door to the rest of the unit, and it still works great! It still takes great clear pictures, even though if you look closely, the camera lens has a crack running thru it from 11 o'clock to 4 o'clock!

Meanwhile, many of my "Verizon & AT &T" friend's phones like Samsung, Nokia, have barely lasted them a year or two!

Of course, SPRINT swallowed NEXTEL, and ironically, I went on the website last week thinking I might upgrade, only to discover they have no newer Motorola phones, except for the ones with the Walkie Talkie feature! This could be enough for me to sever my 10 year relationship with so-called "Sprint/Nextel."

While I do care about if the phones are green, but I could care less How popular or nice looking, or very advanced features. I want to know how WELL IT WORKS, and, obviously how DURABLE the phone is now that the majority of manufacturer's have forced all of us to be in this era of being a "Throw Away Society."

The guide may be of some help, but it is flawed!

Jan 9th 2011 1:01AM Here! Here!
They are young and part of a new generation, and probably enjoy the current popular artists, but music transcends time & space, so why would they not pick anyone whom they enjoy, and brings meaning to their lives?

Get over you "Elton John should'a..." Whose wedding is it anyway? the future King and Queen of England, or Princess Diana's?
Geesh!

Family Confirms Tabloid Reports That Aretha Franklin Is Suffering From Cancer (BV Newswire)

Dec 9th 2010 1:18AM ll anyone can do is pray for the soul of this star. All the hoping and praying in the world will NOT change her outcome. She did this to herself by allowing her unhealthy lifestyle get the best of her which is clearly seen in the poundage she has attained over the years. The only way she could try to beat this, and live a while longer to be productive is to completely change her way of eating; along with drugs and diet.

This should be a wakeup call to all people, but especially African Americans who insist on eating crap; Fast food, and cooking foods high in salt and grease. Women & teenagers I see guzzling sodas in liter bottles, and tons of chips! You only have to go to any mall and watch the African American teens walk by, and see 7 out of 10 are over weight or obese. Unfortunately, children can only blame their parents and the school system (cafeteria food and cutting out exercise from the curriculum)as part of the main reasons amongst other as the problem.

My heart goes out to her. I still remember riding my bike to the music store to buy her latest songs on 45's. She will always be the Queen of Soul, and my prayers for her, and it won't be easy, is that she shows the strength and where-with-all to fight with every known knowledge we have in medicine, diet, and exercise, and be an inspiration to us that we can stave off disease, and ill health by living better, and see the benefits of "Preventative Care" that can keep Black folks healthy in mind and spirit!

If not, we will remain as a people, among any other group, the #1 leaders in heart disease, strokes, breast, colon, and prostate Cancers.
