Oct 21st 2008 6:52PM What you say is for the most part true, but many programmers are tired of having to buy the buggy new overpriced version of a software suite every 2-3 years, so they write their own version of the app and give it away.

In alot of cases, the free versions are better. Mozilla/Opera browsers are way better than IE and I've had bad experiences with Mcafee and Norton, they use so many system resources that they may as well be a virus themselves.

Oct 21st 2008 6:44PM Super Anti Spyware is about 5x better than AdAware, also I prefer Avira AV to AVG, AVG tries too hard to download updates as the system starts, Avira waits for idle time to download updates, but it does have a nag screen. Also Avira doesn't have 1/10 of the false positives that AVG does.
