Why You May Miss Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (AOL Real Estate)

Apr 7th 2012 11:34AM Their operation did hold down interest rates, increasing prices, that is what justified their own existence after the fact. If interest rates remained higher, prices would have remained much lower, this would have been good for consumers and bad for banks! Pay off early on a low interest loan and you don't gain much, high interest it really pays off. All the whole thing accomplished was raising prices and guaranteeing that a lot more would remain in debt. Principle amounts matter more than finance rates. While we're at it, interest tax deductions need to go and capital gains needs returned to 25%.

Sep 24th 2011 12:55AM That's how addiction is perpetuated, it's not their fault, it's the drug. It's not their place to do what is hard, someone else didn't support them enough or control their behavior.

Police Use Pepper Spray to Subdue 8-Year-Old at School (ParentDish)

Apr 6th 2011 5:48PM Maybe they need some teachers there with inner city high school experience. At the school I went to there were fights daily and aside from the assistant principals (basically educated security officers), about a quarter of the teachers readily subdued (without striking) fighting students and held them until the assistant principals go there or dragged them to the office themselves. This is an 8 year old kid with a lot lower likelihood of having a gun or knife, so I really don't see why police involvement was even required or why they couldn't have subdued him without harm.
If you're going to a job like that, get proper training. Nurses, orderlies and the like deal with such every day at psych nursing homes, rarely resorting to drugs and very rarely involving police officers.
