10 Ways to Keep Your Data Safe (Switched)
Jun 9th 2010 8:22AM There are companies where you can mail your hard drive and they will shred it for you. I'm doing a shoe-string start up for a service where you mail me your hard drive and I shoot 6 holes through the platter. I can e-mail pictures of the remains or, for a small additional fee, mail the dead drive back back to you.
Fired Over Fantasy Football: The Unfortunate Case of Cameron Pettigrew (Fanhouse Fantasy Football)
Dec 18th 2009 9:27AM It seems to me that Fidelity did a rather poor job of investigating this unfortunate incident. Mr. Pettigrew could have just as easily been solicited by the person who then reported him. Office politics can be positively Machiavellian these days days but this would be a quick & dirty way of a eliminating a better performing competitor. Mr. Pettigrew needs a good lawyer.
Finally, while Fidelity may be within the strict letter of the law, they look foolish and I don't do business with fools.
Thailand is 'in network'? Employers and insurers embrace medical tourism (Daily Finance)
Nov 30th 2009 10:38AM The thing that no one talks about is how much government regulations and lawsuits have driven up the cost of healthcare while the cost of non-covered surgeries like Lasik and boob jobs and tummy tucks, etc. have all gone down. Rather than universal healthcare which will become a bloated boondoggle that does nothing, we need universal catastrophic illness and injury insurance. The rest can take care of themselves.
Palin Op-Ed Blasts Obama: A Prelude to 2012? (Politics Daily)
Jul 14th 2009 3:22PM I know that one doesn't care to hear facts in the face of all this puerile emotion. However, whether one cares to admit it or not Alaska is doing OK while we're struggling here in the lower 48. Alaska didn't go on spending binges as our coastal brethern have done. They didn't surrender oversight of their banking to the feds and Alaska has gone a long way to reducing corrupt politics. Sarah Palin had a part in this.
Second, Obama's policies been tried before and failed. We cannot tax ourselves to prosperity. We cannot regulate ourselves to prosperity with useless bureaucracies and we cannot spend ourselves to prosperity. Our businesses have gone overseas because we have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world; it's cheaper to build something in Asia and ship it all the way across the Pacific Ocean. Our financial institutions have failed because our political "leaders" htook part of the take when others robbed us. We are doomed until we clean house.
World's Most Overrated Gadgets and Technologies 8 (Switched)
Oct 9th 2008 6:17AM This is going to sound straange but both are too big. We've been reading e-books for years on our Palm Pilots and find the screen size adequate while maintaining easy portability
