I drive, among other vehicles, a 2006 Hyundai Elantra that gives me a legitimate 36MPG out here on the two lanes in west Texas. It cost me all of 14,000 dollars loaded, and untill the car companys can off me a hybrid at the same price, I'll continue to burn gasolene. Brie

The reason is, that we adapt to technology that we WANT, and ignore the stuff that Madison Ave. tries to stuff down our throats. 1940 Taylorcrafts are what I fly to enjoy flight, I'm also totally at home in the left seat of Beech Baron with a "glass" deck on it "in the weather".
I'd love to know how people can still even GET 8 tracks. I got tired of cassette tapes snappng on me, so I embraced the CDs as soon as they came out, and it is no problem getting Floyd, Steppenwolf, Bad Company, Styx, Chicago, etc. on CDs. Brie

You got that right. The biggest reason that I feel and act as young as I do, is that I'm living in a time warp. I have no kids, so I have nothing to "date" myself with. I own a 65 Mustang, a 75 motorcycle, am restoring a 59 F-100, fly a 1940 Taylorcraft, and listen ONLY to 1966 to 1974 music.
ALL my music is on CDs, so I don't NEED any ipods.
Even though I am current on all the science, and news, I FEEL like I did when I was in the Army in the sixties and seventies, the osteo is due to injuries, NOT old age, so I'm still 20.

Jul 12th 2006 3:43PM Until we get a viable hydrogen distribution network in this country, along with AFFORDABLE cars that burn it, we will be left with some undesirable choices. Micro engines? Bad emission problems. Micro cars? Of no use to a family. Electric cars? Too expensive for the average American living off not much more than minum wage. (Before you marginalize this class, remember this. The overwhelming number of gas guzzling, smog belching cars in this Country are OWNED by this class.) Someone in Detroit is going to have to come up with an affordable car that will take four adults and still get high thirties for fuel milage. THAT is why I own a Hyundai Elantra, Detroit doesn't make anything in it's class, for it's price.
