Teacher Suspended for Allegedly Making Kids Scrub Toilet (ParentDish)

May 27th 2011 5:54PM I know of a person who is a custodian in an elementary school. Some of the stories are pretty discusting, Things link poop smeared on the wall, urine sprayed all over the wall and floor graffitti with words that can't be posted here. . Is it possible that the same thing was happening at this school? If the kids are made to clean up after themselves (only themselves as the story claims) maybe, just maybe kids would think twice before doing a poo smear, gaffiti, etc on the walls. Sad to say but kids bathroom ettiquette is quite different than it was 20 years ago.

Cocktails for Kids -- LeNell it All (Slashfood)

Aug 6th 2010 8:24PM I agree with not calling them a cocktail. I don't however see a problem with giving your kids a fun beverage. I don't think I would serve preggatinis for a 16 year olds baby shower, maybe I would make a watermelon lemon slush. I could see myself calling them a preggatini for a 20 plus woman having a baby shower. I think we all have had fun drinks as kids. Remember going out with your parents and getting a Shirley Temple. Heck I drank Shirley Temples and smoked (pretended) candy cigarettes and now as an adult I don't smoke and rarely do I drink alcohol. Yes I know Shirley Temples are alcohol free, but as a 3 year old I thought I was being pretty grown up drinking as my parents did. Of course at 3 I knew nothing about alcohol. I know my comment sounds a little flipsided, I guess it is just a sign of how things are so different today then they were 40-50 years ago.

'Back to the Future' Inspired Shoes Really Tie Themselves (Switched)

Jul 6th 2010 7:53PM I agree for someone with a disability these would be great. I work with kids who have multiple disabilities, and some of them never get how to tie a shoe. I do agree though, that a child should first learn how to tie a shoe before they are given this cute novelty.

McDonald's faces lawsuit threat over 'Happy Meal' toy offers (WalletPop)

Jun 23rd 2010 6:41PM Although the toys are a marketing ploy, shouldn't it be up to the parents to say yay or nay as to whether they buy the happy meal or not. I don't think too many 2-10 year olds go into a McDonalds on their own to buy one. Personally I think some of the toys are pretty cool, and never minded buying them for my children when they were younger. Today we will occassionally take our grandkids out for a Happy Meal. There's a reason they are called Happy Meals, aren't we all a ittle happy when we get a new toy? Plus McDonalds now has healthier options for the meals, including apple slices and milk.
Give MC Donalds a break, let kids be kids, and let parents be allowed to be parents and make their own decisions for their children.

A No-Fail Guide to Good and Bad Baby Shower Gifts (Shopping Articles Blog)

Jun 13th 2010 9:38PM When my daughter-in-law had her baby shower we bought her one of those portable crib/playpens. Little to our knowledge the other grandma bought her one as well. We gave her the reciept so that she could return it and get something else she could use, she in turn decided to keep both of them and let the other grandma keep one at her home as she would be helping with daycare when the our daughter-in-law returned to work. She did have a registry, she didn't have anything on there of great expense just the basic necessities that every baby can use. One advantage to a registry is that it helps in not receiving multiples of the same item.
I agree some people do get extremely greedy and snobbish when it comes to the registrys. People should just be grateful that people cared enough to get something for the baby. What gets me is when they register at the pricest stores.

The Bad Tip Follow-Up - What Can I Get You Folks? (Slashfood)

May 26th 2010 9:28PM One way I heard to tip is to double the tax. It will usally be around a 15% or so tip. I'm not sure if all states add tax to restaurant meals. It works well for people who aren't to good at math.

Boy Featured on 'Extreme Makeover' Brings Rare Disorder to Light (AOL Health)

May 10th 2010 10:56PM Stormpits sounds to me like the little girl your parents fostered had pica(not sure of the spelling) not prader willi. Although they are similiar from my understanding people with prader willi will only eat edible items, people with pica on the other hand will eat anything.

Take Your Kids to Work Day Stories (AOL Jobs)

Apr 22nd 2010 6:05PM Bring your child to work day can be both positive and negative depending on the child. There are children who are not ready or mature enough to go help out mom or dad for the day. There are those who benefit greatly from the experience.
As for the teacher, be glad you have parents who are so involved with their children. If you know bring your kid to work day is approaching change your lesson plans around. School does not always have to be textbooks and packets. Plan a math game around the lessons being taught, have the children write a paper on what they want to be when they grow up, talk about different professions and what type of schooling they entail. There are so many other ways to teach, without upsetting the learning of others who may miss one day of school. Flexability is what teaching is all about, you never know what you may learn about your students, when you step away from the same old routine.

Cat Fur Sweaters for Everyone (Lemondrop)

Jan 9th 2009 12:44AM Yep it might look pretty silly wearing a wig made from angora, but If one can use human hair for a wig why not a cats fur for gloves, hats etc.... As long as an animal isn't being harmed whats the big deal with it. I'm sure there are many people living on the streets who wouldn't mind wearing a pair of warm goves and hat made of fur.. The animals aren't being killed, the extra fur that is being used is shaved/brushed from them. The fur that has been spun looks and feels no different then that you would buy in a store.

Cat Fur Sweaters for Everyone (Lemondrop)

Jan 8th 2009 11:38PM Whats so wrong with using fur thats been cut off or brushed. I have a vest made out of dog fur. The dog was not harmed, it was brushed often and his fur was kept, spun into yarn and made into a vest. Think of it as hair that is no longer needed being recycled. Is it really any different than people who cut off their hair and give it to lots of locks, the organization that makes wigs for people who have lost their hair through chemo????? Hair that is no longer needed being reused for a purposeful reason, thats all it boils down too.
