Michael Vick Not in Prison Drug Program (Fanhouse NFL Blog)
May 27th 2008 9:55AM #46
So you suggest we open all the jails because we have an off-the-wall president? So every time a US president get involved in a war you don't approve of, or perhaps does anything you don't approve of we'd have to empty the jails. Sounds like what you mean is "anytime we live in the real world we have to let everyone out of jail".

"They will never tell you we did not hire you because you are a felon"
that's quite true and that's how it is for any career outside of being a celebrity. Most law firms will not consider someone with a record - the individual *may* escape being disbarred but it's C and D level jobs at best, forget the fancy law careers you see on TV. In my line of work (telecom) which has nothing to do with the FBI or law enforcement, you have to pass a 50-state background check. It took 20 years for me to get into this line of work, but one screwup and it would be gone. I would be refused for most misdemenors, never mind felonies. They can hire one of the 95% of people with no record rather than someone with a criminal background and that's what they do. Fair or not, that's how it works for non-celebrities. This isn't a DUI or a scuffle with a paparazzi; this running a whole criminal enterprise. I don't see why Vick who is a famous public role model with a career most people can not even aspire to should get a free pass.
Michael Vick Not in Prison Drug Program (Fanhouse NFL Blog)
May 27th 2008 9:24AM This guy is a creep. The drug program is meant for people so addicted to drugs that they can't GET a job or a life or keep one if they became addicited while at work. Vick is just looking to use a recreational smoke or 2 as a get out of jail ticket. Kinda bizzare if you think about it - a minor vice (occasional pot smoking) could buy Vick a pass out of serving time for a felony.
Vick's sentence was not particularly harsh: had he not been a popular celebrity it would have been double what he got. I'm all for forgiveness ... where it's warranted but this is not some poor guy struggling to pay last month's rent. Vick was and to some still is a public role model and example for millions of people. Let's see if the celebrity worshipers in GA take the excuse to spring this crook.
