The Word 'Retard': Stop Using It (ParentDish)

Mar 6th 2011 5:21PM "Retard" is an ugly word. It always has been, it always will be, and hence, I use it in an ugly fashion.

I never call mentally-challenged people "retarded". I call them special needs or mentally challenged or some other gentler term. But to the punk-kid who keyed my car or my ex, yeah, to me, they're "retards".

I really don't know people are clinging to this term to describe their mentally challenged children. DROP IT ALREADY. You are NEVER going to get over the negative connotations, so why keep beating a dead horse? Just find another term, a loving term, to call your child, and ask those around you to use that term as well. But you are not going to change people's minds about the word.

Why I Love Being a Size 12 (Lemondrop)

Nov 4th 2010 1:48PM Wrong. By today's standards, Marilyn would be a size 8. At one time, she was up to a size 12, circa 1959 (Some Like It Hot). She did lose weight later in her career.

And again, the author has stated she eats right and exercises. So do I. I'm a size 12, age 45, and I am the healthiest I have ever been. I'm sorry, but the whole "health" issue re: fat discrimination is just a smokescreen. I know people who are overweight and are healthy. And I know people who are underweight and look like they're about to keel over. Your point?

Why I Love Being a Size 12 (Lemondrop)

Nov 4th 2010 1:40PM Bravo, Stacy! I'm so happy to see that you are happy with yourself, and at a much younger age than I was. I was a chubby child, and then an obese teenager. At 19, I went on a starvation diet and lost 100 lb. From then on, I struggled with eating disorders for 20 years-- anorexia, exercise/laxitive bulimia, compulsive eating, the whole bit.

All that changed when I hit 40. I looked in the mirror and said, "What the hell am I doing? Competing with 20 year olds?? What the hell is THAT gonna get me? More misery, that's all." So I stopped dieting. Ate like a normal person, good most days, bad some days. I've now maintained my weight for 5 years, and I'm a size 12. And I LOVE IT!! I have curves for days (little in the middle and fluffily above and below). I have men 20 years younger hit on me all the time. I exercise, but not to extreme. I bought a dress, an exact replica of the pink dress Marilyn Monroe wore in the movie "Niagra", and I fill it out so beautifully, I can't believe it's ME in the mirror! I've even done some modeling. If you had told me 20 years ago I'd be a model at 45, I'd have laughed in your face. Now, not so far-fetched.

Satanists Take Over Oklahoma City Civic Center ... Doom! (Horror Squad)

Sep 6th 2010 11:31AM I just spent 10 minutes reading the rants of grown adults who still believe in the Boogyman. I'm gonna shove a toothbrush up my nose and scrub my brain for a while.

'Pit Boss': Are Pit Bulls Dangerous Killer Dogs or Not? (VIDEO) (AOL TV)

Aug 19th 2010 8:33AM I am a pro dog walker and trainer in NYC. At present, I am working with a rescued red-nose fighter pit. A year ago, I couldn't walk this dog down the street without him going psycho on every dog he saw-- well, for the first year of his life, any dog he saw was trying to kill him, so I understood completely. I have worked with him everyday for a year using nothing but loving positive reinforcement. Now, when he sees a dog, he sits at my side and gives me the goofiest grin a dog could muster. He likes people and LOOOOVES kids. He is 35 lb of walking sugar. These dogs are not beyond hope, they just need love and understanding.

What It's Really Like to Be 40 -- By a Formerly Hot 20-something (Lemondrop)

May 17th 2010 8:18AM I always find articles like this to be funny, because, well, I'm going through the exact opposite. I'm 44, and I've never been hit on more in my entire life! I NEVER got hit on in my 20's, I remained an 'ugly duckling' up until my late 30's. And then, I don't know, my looks caught up with my age-- I actually weigh more, but carry it better, and no one guesses I actually weigh what I do (hour-glass figure). The 'baby-fat' I had in my face seemed to disappear overnight, and I had cheekbones and definition for the first time! I have more confidence now, and it shows in everything I do. I traded high heels for flat fashionable boots, mini-skirts for fitted jeans, and flavor-of-the-month hairstyles for more classic cuts. Young men literally half my age check me out on the subway and on the street. Even though I have no children, somewhere down the line, I became a MILF.

Why One Veterinarian Quit, Disgusted With a Profession He Once Revered (Pawnation OLD)

Dec 10th 2009 9:39AM I have had many pets over the years, most of which I saved off the streets of New York. The vet business here is nothing more than a money machine. I can't tell you how many arguments I've had with vets re: euthanasia. I have lost cats to cancer, feline AIDS, and hyperthyroidism. And with every single one, a vet has given me a song and dance about "hope". Hope for advanced AIDS??? Hope for cancer??? I shoved pills down my poor little Zoe's throat for months trying to control her broken thyroid, and just watched her get sicker and sicker.

I finally WENT OFF on a vet at the ASPCA! I said, "OK, just stop it right now! No, I will NOT pay thousands of dollars for a cardiologist! No, I will NOT pay thousands for chemo! No, I will NOT pay thousands to have all his teeth removed! END HIS SUFFERING NOW! And if you don't, I WILL report you to the state boards and contact the media and tell them what you're doing to people and pets!"

Don't let them play on your guilt. If I have a sick pet with no chance of recovery, I say right away before they can even get a word out, "Don't try to talk me into anything. I will take him home, let him live out his last few days with his family, and then bring him back, and YOU will put him down, and I WILL NOT hear another word. Got it?" Legally, after you tell them that, they MUST do what you say.And if they don't, report them to the state and find another vet.

Stephen King Spills Beans on 'Shining' Sequel (Moviefone Blog)

Nov 28th 2009 8:37AM Ed Norton! Good call! Cronenberg would be great to direct-- I'm thinking Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, Slumdog Millionaire, 28 Days Later) would be a great choice as well.

Inappropriate Halloween Costumes: Where Do You Draw the Line? (Holidash News)

Oct 24th 2009 4:08PM Then don't buy them. Simple, right?

And BTW, you don't know anything about sexual predators. They get turned on by any child, not children dressed like "sluts". Puhleeze. Instead of looking down your nose and screaming about sexual predators, how about teaching your children to RECOGNIZE ONE????

Inappropriate Halloween Costumes: Where Do You Draw the Line? (Holidash News)

Oct 24th 2009 4:06PM I know, it's sad, isn't it? Adults so immature and fearful they see sex in everything. No wonder the rest of the world laughs at the US. A bunch of puritanical PRUDES.
