Due to his lying he not only put other people in jeopardy, he could have been coerced or blackmailed by someone. Like Nixon, it wasn't the crime it was the cover-up. The difference is that Nixon had the gumption, to resign and not drag his office and the country through the disgrace of impeachment procedings.
