Report: Supplier strike may lead to shutdown of Chrysler's minivan line (Autoblog)
Oct 27th 2010 3:44PM North American autoworkers are some of the most productive in the world, producing some of the highest quality cars in the world. Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, BMW, Mercedes, Ford and GM all depend on US and Canadian plants to build many of their best sellers.
$50k is a living wage you can almost raise a family on. I get the distinct impression many commenters here won't be happy until autoworkers make 12 bucks an hour or less.
All of those people should try working on an assembly line for a year before pronouncing the work easy (it's not) or the workers lazy (they're not).
Worst tattoos -- no regrets: the best, worst and most ridiculous tattoos ever (Asylum)
Oct 20th 2010 9:53PM #10 is an Eames chair and ottoman, one of the most iconic furniture designs of the 1950s, and probably the most famous midcentury modern chair ever made.
If you can find a genuine original in good shape, they are worth around $7,000+. New ones are still being sold by Herman Miller for about $5,000.
Just because the writer doesn't know their design does not mean it's a bad or dumb tattoo... and by the way, that tattoo is actually very well done.
The Mercedes-Benz SL Class Is the Most Ticketed Car (Asylum)
Oct 20th 2010 9:23PM Mercedes, cheapest in the long term?
I want what you're smoking. Expensive to buy, expensive parts, expensive labor, expensive insurance, expensive maintenance, expensive repair, time and tool-intensive diagnosis, and to top it all off, incredibly complicated *and* poor resale value.
I'll put my Civic against any Benz made in the last 20 years.

Wrecked Ferrari Enzo reborn as Bonneville Salt Flats racer? (Autoblog)
Aug 19th 2010 9:09PM Licensing runs (rules-limited to about 150 mph) went off well.
Wrecked Ferrari Enzo reborn as Bonneville Salt Flats racer? (Autoblog)
Aug 19th 2010 3:23AM I saw this car at the salt flats today. It looks good and sounds better. Going back to the start line tomorrow; we'll see what kind of runs it puts down.
Top 5 Fuel-Efficient Vehicles We Want (But Can't Have) (AOL Autos - Translogic)
Jul 6th 2010 7:03PM Remember, the Imperial (british/european) gallon is 20% larger than the US gallon. Take 20% off those UK mileage figures before you compare them to US numbers. Thus that 73mpg figure becomes 58 mpg - still impressive but not ridiculous considering that car is much smaller.
Review: 2010 Volkswagen GTI - It's got its mojo workin' again (Autoblog)
Jun 5th 2010 10:26PM VW has perfected the art of building a car that feels like quality to the driver without actually *being* a quality car. Nice soft touch switches, tasteful lighting, grippy steering wheel... paid for by lots of crap components that fail repeatedly.
Power window regulators every 2 years, broken glovebox doors, bad coils, faulty MAFs, broken sunroof sunshades, creaky seats, brittle and vulnerable cast aluminum oil pans, short lived and expensive clutches, faulty headlights, seat releases that snap off in your hands, the list goes on and on.
Yes, our family has owned a lot of VWs. 11, to be exact. I had 3 of those. No more. They were really good business for my shop though, since many of them seldom stayed fixed for long.
I've heard the reliability is somewhat better in the last few years but I'm sure not going to spend my hard earned cash to be VW's quality guinea pig. They will need 5 straight years of quality comparable to Subaru or Honda, minimum.
Once you pay for your own repairs, that string of $800 clutches/$400 window regulators/$500 MAFs/$400 wheel bearings etc gets real old real fast, grippy steering wheel and high class instruments or no.
I'll keep my Civic Si, thanks. 201,000+ miles on the original powertrain, still running strong with zero issues beyond normal maintenance and a distributor replacement @183k.
