Big Cats Play With Big Toys (Pawnation OLD)

Aug 24th 2011 10:10PM Beautiful cats should never be in such close quarters.....they do look happy and well cared for and that's a plus. I'll be honest if they were not in enclosures I never would have the chance to admire these cats in person....so maybe that's a benefit of having them caged.

Notorious 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' Mental Institution Reopening (Asylum)

Nov 22nd 2010 9:25AM Thank you !!! You are one of the educated who sees the difference. Mental illness is not a criminal offense and calling people "inmates" is archaic. Although many strides have been made in the field of treatment...so many of the old sterotypes still prevail. I've met well educated people with some of the most absurd notions on what "mental illness" is. So much of the misconception is based on lack of knowledge and fear of the unknown. Its sad, but its also human nature, if it scares us we want to lock it away and not think about it. So by calling these persons "inmates" and not people (or clients) we can separate the feelings of guilt about their treatment.

Countdown to Meet the Breeds - GoPetFriendly.com Gift Pack Giveaway (Pawnation OLD)

Oct 6th 2010 7:51PM There are some pet friendly spots to visit...but the winery where I used to work was animal friendly to all creatures. In the fall we frequently recieved visitors via horseback...or horse and cart. I did tastings for people who brought in their pups and kitties too....and once a woman with a very vocal pet bird.

Dog Breed Myths - Can You Separate Fact From Fiction? (Pawnation OLD)

Sep 19th 2010 11:35PM Just another bit about sighthounds. The Saluki was the only dog permitted to lay down on the sheikh's own carpet. That is how respected this breed was. Saluki's were so valued because they helped find food in an area where game is scarce. So, when you think about it, cats may have been worshipped as gods and goddesses but the Saluki was was even more revered....he/ she was treated as an equal to their human "master" . I know greyhounds can live to about 14...and Saluki's do too...for a large breed that's a long lifespan.

Cute Pet of the Day - July 20, 2010 (Pawnation OLD)

Jul 20th 2010 3:40PM I had a great cat nick named "Second Hand Rose". Rose was a "bounceback" and had been through several homes. She was a gentle cat...but either someone moved or had allergies or whatever...so Rose was a wanderer. I got her when she was about 5yrs old and she lived to 17. A great little soul..Ramblin' Rose.
