Female duo sets the standard for Link cosplay (Joystiq Nintendo)
Mar 18th 2008 12:49PM Ooops, forgot to mention. I didn't want to seem as though I was inferring that these two gals were attention hounds or being overtlysexual. On the contrary. These cosplayers are not doing anything overtly inappropriate all. It's just friendly affection, for certain. This is extremely tame and innocent compared to some types of cosplay I've seen available out there. Seriously, this is nothing to get rustled up over.
And some of you need to tame those hormones; asking for personal info is a big no-no. It's rude, scarily alarming, and may point to some issues you need to work out. The best way to meet people - and possibly a potential s/o - is to be personable and friendly, with moralistic integrity towards other people. Don't try so hard, don't get upset if the affection is not returned, don't get rude or offensive. I was extremely shy, withdrawn, and practically socially inept when I was younger. But being logical about things, and following those ideals you will open up and actually enjoy life and meet some great people.
'nuff said?
Female duo sets the standard for Link cosplay (Joystiq Nintendo)
Mar 18th 2008 12:01PM StrangeAxel You make very little case for your own argument. You come off looking ridiculous which causes your opinions to be discarded and un-credible.
"You *can* make a career out of video games. Beta testing, texture artists, animation, modeling, game designing IN GENERAL."
Yes, but few people generally do. Sadly. Though it's still an infant growing field, much like 'IT'. For such a career you need to be passionate, creative, dedicated and organized. How do you get these skills? Well, of course educated schooling (i.e. College) helps. But what about life experience? I find many Cosplayers have an immense creative drive. They can be extremely passionate at what they do, and posses an ambitiousness that - if handled correctly and combined with the former - could be just the skill needed get them far in life and a successful career.
"You can't make a career out of acting out fictitious characters."
Uh, say what? Try looking at that and rethink what you just said. Yes you can make a living doing exactly that, it's called ACTING. There's this huge industry called 'ENTERTAINMENT' that is based on nothing BUT acting; both fictitious and actual-life characters and situations. Granted it's a tough field to become enormously successful (and famous) in, but many make a fair living off it. For other people it's more of a hobby; like cosplayers.
"One last thing you can't make a career out of making costumes. I'm sorry there's no college for anime costumes."
Again, look at the Entertainment industry. This career field is called Wardrobe or Costume Design, or something to that effect. Also, if you haven't noticed, the fashion industry is huge. And what about merchandising and holiday costuming? Seems to me it's a career field, and a fun, creative and rewarding one at that.
You make wide, unfounded generalizations that are blatantly geared towards attempting to prove your point, however failing miserably. You seem to have a vendetta agenda against someone and are imposing it onto anyone that marginally fits the into you narrow vision.
Although, unfortunately I have to agree, that sometimes cosplay is about getting attention and can be a bit overtly sexual. Human beings have a way of making darn near anything to be about sex. It's just a fact. But you seriously took it a bit far and made a bigger issue out of it. You ended up looking like an unnecessarily angry, foolhardy individual.
How-To: Build your own network firewall (Engadget)
Jan 10th 2008 12:51PM The title should read, "How-To: Build your own Linux network firewall"... not that I'm complaining, it should just be a bit more direct to the point, reflecting the program basis used for this procedure. Although they do give a general explanation as to WHY they used it, perhaps a bit more detail, an external link for more advice, or a suggested alternative would have been nice.
HP's noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphones hit the FCC (Engadget)
Jan 10th 2008 12:40PM True enough about the Darwin awards.
In hindsight, I guess I assumed that a bluetooth headset was for portable devices, because am/was not aware that there might be bluetooth accessories for home devices. If there are, noise cancellation makes much more sense. Of course, again, you risk the inability to hear cries for help or emergency warnings, or such, all the same. I know I like a good "undisturbed session" when I am playing my favorite MMO, but it's not always practical.
HP's noise-cancelling Bluetooth headphones hit the FCC (Engadget)
Jan 10th 2008 10:54AM Noise cancellation is great when you're trying to hear that conversation in a crowded public area or something. However, do we really want people walking around with headphones on that cancel out noises like automobiles or emergency warning sirens?
Review: Windows Live Hotmail (Switched)
Oct 3rd 2007 2:25PM I got the same message today. However, I am having a hard time locating any information one way or the other as to it's validity. I can't even find a way to send it to MSN for verification (i.e. for reporting potential eBay scams you forward it to spoof@ebay.com).
I too updated to Windows Live Hotmail a while ago, and yet they occasionally send me reminders to update. So, who knows. I'd just sign in to your email and look through the options, instead of clicking an email link. Always be wary of links in emails, don't click them if you can avoid it. Instead navigate to the site yourself. Also, you can right-click and 'copy link location', then paste into a search engine and see what you find.
BREAKING NEWS: Arrested, 7th Heaven, Kitchen cancelled (AOL TV)
Nov 11th 2005 10:31AM tell me it ain't so... What is wrong with TV execs these days killing all the good shows and bringing us crap to fill the voids? It's been a long time since TV had great shows, and lately it seems they only run 1-2 seasons before they kill them because, "We were glad to have a good run, but we think we have some great stuff lined up." Seriously. Do we really need another Survivor and more CSI spinoffs than you can spit at? This show is one of the main reasons I got back into PrimeTime sitcoms. I was just beginning to get back into weekly TV shows with all the great shows lately (Everybody Hates Chris, My Name is Earl). But, just like radio, they continue to dissapoint - only TV does it not with crappy playlists, but with crappy lineups and killing great, creative, entertaining shows. It's no wonder people are flocking to Sattilite Radios and DVR's; so they can listen/watch what they want, when they want and have some moderate control over it. Fox can really make some stupid moves, yet everyonce in a while they pick up a show that has such great potential and builds such a following... yet they never fail to axe it right when it really takes off. Reminds me of a Californian voter... Ask for one thing, then when you get it, complain and vote it down. Maybe TV shows and Hollywood movies should be run by a national election. Oh, wait, isn't that what RATINGS are suppose to be? I'm buying this series on DVD, and waiting for a cable station (Comedy Central, Showtime) to pick it up after the season ends.
