SmackDown: Would You Homeschool Your Kids? (ParentDish)

Aug 25th 2010 12:23AM I believe in homeschooling for much different reasons than usually given.
Many schools have zero tolerance policies that I would not want my children involved with. I would not want my child in jail over a forgotten pocketknife for something similar. I also do not want them part of an environment where peanut/tree nut allergic people think everyone else is responsible if they have a reaction my touching something without cleaning it.
Of course, I also reject the usual reasons against homeschooling. One does not learn to stick up for one's self in school. The bullies simply bully more intensely. Plus, when one defends one's self, one may get suspended instead of the bully. Bullies can be very good liars. Of course, the bullies often continue even if they get suspended, as they often do not care. They prey on those who do care.
While some bullying may occur in the business world, it is nothing like what happens in school. The threat of lawsuits is simply too large.

Teen Racks Up $21,917 Cell Phone Bill, Dad Flabbergasted (Switched)

Dec 14th 2009 8:26PM If the father asked the company to restrict his son to calls and text messages, the company said they would, and the company failed to do so, then the company must eat the cost. It is as simple as that.

PD*poll: Should dad be banned from son's graduation ceremony? (ParentDish)

May 27th 2008 11:59AM That is because those who oppose him going are so abusive and regularly use ad hominem attacks. Those who think the way I do are afraid to speak up for fear of ostracism. I along with some others are brave enough to face the fury of the vocal minority.

PD*poll: Should dad be banned from son's graduation ceremony? (ParentDish)

May 27th 2008 11:52AM Barbara is right. Escorting him will help keep any child safe.
We need to go by "think" for sex offenders and everyone else. Unless we kill everyone, we cannot be 100% sure what someone will do.
I support sex offender colonies and everything. I just think that if a sex offender already has a child, we should allow supervised contact if the child desires. Guarding the father at graduation helps advance this interest.

10--year-old arrested for cutting her lunch with a knife (ParentDish)

Mar 8th 2008 12:55AM People should remember that a child who would fly off the handle to the point of stabbing someone would bring his/her own knife, even if he/she did not plan to use it that day. He/she would get into fights regularly and have it just in case. The Korean kid mentioned earlier is an example.
What we must do is separate violent and impulsive children from others.
Do the pro-zero tolerance people think background checks should be required for steak knife purchases. Should they be banned from restaurants?
It is really strange that people would not react to a mall stabbing by suggesting felony charges for someone who has a steak knife in his/her lunch box at a mall.
We need to stop making school into an alternative universe. It causes much more harm than good.
