Jeff Gordon: 'I'm Going to Ruffle Some Feathers and Make Some Mistakes' (Fanhouse Motorsports Blog)
Jul 1st 2010 5:55PM Get rid of the restrictor plates and let's go racing. NASCAR needs to get out of bed with GM and let the Dodges and Fords get back into mix. For some reason Chevy motors breath better with the restrictive plates cutting air intake and the MoPar and Fords don't. ALso, am I the only one who wnders why there are so many cautions near the end of almost every race? Are these being set up on purpose? It seems like if one of the chosen few isn't out front or in a position to run to the front the yellow flag always seems to fly! What gives? I'm about ready to watch soccer!
Check FEMA flood maps now before flood insurance rates rise (WalletPop)
Apr 3rd 2010 10:12AM We own a house that sits on about a ten acre pond fed by two small streams. The pond has two spillways, one in constant use and the other as a back up that sits 10" higher, each is 25' wide. There is also a manual flood gate that can be opened in severe conditions.
We have been through hurricanes, a period when we had ten days of continous heavy rain and recently some of the worst wet conditions here in the East.
The pond has never ever come over the banks and none of the 10 houses on the pond have ever flooded in the 40 some years they have sat here.
But FEMA says we have to pay for flood insurance. The policy doesn't cover anything on the first floor, that would include the furnace, hot water heater, family room, garage, laundry room, etc.
We pay $1,700.00 a year for nothing except to be a cash cow for the lawyers, judges and politicans that live on the coast and are in areas subject to erosion and flooding or people that live and build in areas that are known to flood.
Getting FEMA to back off and reverse their decisions is almost impossible. Our area isn't even considered a flood prone area but a wetlands area because of the pond but FEMA will not acknowlege there has never been a problem here and that the precautions put in place when the pond was created are more than sufficent to allow any excess water to drain off before it would flood.
Government bull crap! These rules were in place long before the Bush era, Obama era.
FEMA Drowns Millions of Homeowners in Flood Insurance Premiums (Housingwatch)
Jan 15th 2010 2:37PM We owned a house that was bordered by a small creek, everytime it rained hard it would flood our septic system and I would have to put two sump pumps in the basement to keep up with the water coming up through the basement floor.
But I was never required to buy flood insurance by FEMA.
We sold that house and bought a larger on on a small pond that is fed by two very small creeks that start as natural springs in a dense wooded area behind the pond. There are two spillways on the pond and a flood gate that can be manually opened to dump all the water in the pond within a short time.
FEMA requires flood insurance for this house and it has never flooded in the sixty three years I have lived in the area and no one can ever recall it even coming close to coming over the banks.
Four years ago we had six days of some of the heaviest rain ever and the second spillway, which is six inches higher then the other, never had a drop of water go over it!
This house sits on a slab, no basement and the insurance company just sent a new exclusion wavier that says they will not cover anything on the first floor. That would be my garage, family room, utility room and laundry room. They will cover structure only.
Are these people nuts, I now pay $1,800.00 dollars a year for mandatory flood insurance that will not cover the most expensive rooms in the house to replace, to me that's being forced to pay for insurance that doesn't cover anything because FEMA drew a line around a ten acre pond that is on average less than four foot deep and can be drained before it could ever reach flood stage.
Thanks FEMA for nothing!
New Version of Conficker Virus Can Update Itself (Switched)
Feb 24th 2009 2:50PM I have Norton and Spy Bot installed on my PC. I still have viruses sneaking past both, Mostly spyware junk that I can get rid of easily. But everytime I run a scan I find that my Mircosoft anti virus program has been shut down. Anyone know why? Does Norton or Spy Bot do it automatically or is there something else I should look for?
The SUV love affair isn't over yet (BloggingStocks)
Nov 27th 2006 7:34PM I am the father of five and live in an area known for the occasional bad winter weather. My wife used to drive an Expedition but now that the kids have grown we scaled down to a new Explorer that right now is averaging 19 miles to the gallon. (Gee Frank, my penis didn't get bigger for scaling down, why?)
I drive a Windstar for company business and average over 20 miles to the gallon, but in the driveway is my F150 4X4 with an American V8 under the hood (mayube that's my the size of my penis didn't change). It will get 18 miles to the gallon as long as I keep my foot out of the fuel injection.
All Ford vehicles, made by an American company and the profit stays here within our borders and I know that I will get over 150K out of each one just following normal maintenance schedules.
I make my money here in the USA and I'll spend my US dollars so as many as possible stay here in the USA!
The very best potato chips (Slashfood)
Jun 6th 2006 9:06PM The best chips ever has to be "Humpty Dumpty" chips from Maine.
They come in numerous flavors including "Clam and Dip", "Dill Pickle", "Ketchup" and on and on!
They're light, crisp with just the right amount of salt and not greasy at all.
Problem is, I think they keep them to themselves although I heard they will ship to individuals "from away" or those considered "otta-staters".
As for me I make several trips there a year and always bring back several large bags!
