I really want people to torch Cosmo/Glamour and all other disgusting and DEGRADING magazines for women.

Feb 18th 2008 5:19PM All brick-and-mortar bookstores even in large metropolitan cities like Miami, Dallas, and Orlando (all places where I have resided) don't have enough space for people to sit!! I shouldn't have to step over dozens of people on the floor in one visit and the seating at the attached Starbucks was surely created with people who carry their own cushions in their laptop bag in mind.

This is the one advantage they have over digital retailers--to provide a cozy environment where you can actually touch and leaf through the books--and they're blowing it big time.

The music they choose to play throughout the store, less than helpful clerks, and RIDICULOUS/outdated ordering systems (when product isn't available in store) are also problems at both stores.

How about using RFID technology (seen in one of Prada's awesome flagship stores) to tell me more about the author, or similar books that I might like and where to find them when I take a book from the shelf?

Retailers have to get creative to keep people coming back. If you're not going to do that in Customer Service, at least boot up your Store Planning department and figure out what makes us (us being Gens X,Y, and Z) feel good.

It probably is NOT what you think (digital downloads or whatever in store).
