Phillies' Fan Tasered by Cops After Running on Field (Fanhouse Backporch)
May 5th 2010 1:29AM For those who say the kid got what he deserved, the cop did right, etc., is society saying that the role of the police officer now involves PUNISHING suspects as well as arresting them? Last I heard, a person is innocent until a jury of his peers say otherwise, and then a judge passes sentence. Even when someone does something stupid with thousands on hand to witness his guilt. Encouraging officers to punish their suspects before arresting them takes us down a slippery slope. Whether it is nightsticks or electricity, it shouldn't be allowed unless absolutely necessary.
Phillies' Fan Tasered by Cops After Running on Field (Fanhouse Backporch)
May 5th 2010 12:34AM Tazers were supposed to be used as a safe alternative to a real gun - in other words,if the situation warranted the use of deadly force but a tazer is handy and the suspect can be disabled with it without endangering the officers then it is a better tool for the job. Which brings up the question of: if no tazer was available would the situation required the officer to draw his firearm and blow the guy away? Or was the cop too fat/lazy to chase the guy down?
Facebook Launching Ads Based on Your Browsing History (Switched)
Apr 19th 2010 10:59PM Facebook isn't just for trying to find a mate(or a date!), My family is scattered all over the country. Plus old Navy buddies and High School friends. Is how we keep up on the news, share family pictures, etc.
People in Glass Houseboats: A Wave of the Future? (Rented Spaces)
Mar 6th 2010 8:43PM Not sure, but looks more like something meant to be moored in one place so stability isn't as much of an issue. Didn't read anything leading me to believe that it was a true houseboat that you could cruise around in and then just drop anchor for the night.
Interchange fees cost you more than you realize (WalletPop)
Mar 6th 2010 1:36AM Gas pumps used to have a cash and credit price. A few cents more for credit sales to cover the fee since the profit margin for retail gas sales is so low. The credit card companies made it illegal to charge a higher price for card sales so the station owners had to raise the prices for everyone otherwise everytime someone used their card to buy gas they would lose money. A few cents when gas was $1 a gallon. Now the cc companies make about a dime per gallon everytime someone fills up on their card. Or put another way, the stations could drop their prices by about a dime per gallon. And they would, as soon as the station across the street changed their sign.
No Such Thing as Fair Play With OT (Fanhouse NFL Blog)
Mar 2nd 2010 5:52PM I've never thought the OT rule was fair. After 4 quarters of hard football they might as well send the players to the locker room and have the owners meet in the field to toss a coin and see who won the game. What's wrong with playing a full 5th quarter? Or whoever wins the coin toss accepts the kickoff. If they score, they kickoff to the other team and that team has a chance to win or tie. Instead of a few short plays to get into fieldgoal range the team who won the coin toss would try for a TD knowing that if they got it the worst that would happen is that that other team would match it forcing a second OT.
In Defense of Farmville -- Why One Addict Won't Be Cowed by Haters (Lemondrop)
Feb 25th 2010 1:00AM So they SPAM their friends to get more points for themselves???
With friends like that...
In Defense of Farmville -- Why One Addict Won't Be Cowed by Haters (Lemondrop)
Feb 24th 2010 11:13PM THANK YOU!!! See, problem solved. If you care enough about your nonfarming friends to spare them the SPAM, then you have the option of doing so.
As far as I'm concerned, there is nothing wrong with farming or other games. I just don't want my wall cluttered up with it. I try to spend a few hours a day playing guitar and always seem to watch TV for a few. If someone else wants to farm that is their right. I don't post on their wall every time I change the TV channel to let them know what I'm watching and I don't update their wall every time I change songs on the guitar - I figure they don't care. I don't care about their lost cows either so would like the same courtesy.
In Defense of Farmville -- Why One Addict Won't Be Cowed by Haters (Lemondrop)
Feb 24th 2010 10:32PM Gotta agree - some people play Playstation, some X-Box, etc, all games. And if someone kept updating their stats onto my wall every time they reached a new level on their Playstation game I wouldn't like that either. Problem with farmville is that it does it automatically. Instead of nonfarmers having to adjust their settings to stop what is essentially SPAM, the farmers should have to add fellowfarmers to their feed so they can swap stories about purple ducks or whatever. I have friends that I haven't seen in 30 years find me on FB. After I accepted their friend requests my wall got cluttered with their junk. Never any "real" posts letting friends know how they are doing, etc. Just whether or not they got their crops fertilized or if they found a strange egg. And invitations to join - what's the deal - is it some kind off pyramid deal? Get more points for signing other people up. They are worse than Amway. If they bothered to read my wall, they would know that I'm a member of the I HATE FARMVILLE NOTIFICATIONS" club. So why keep inviting me to join?
And Marika. If you are farming at work and improving your game status is more satisfying than a "job well done" from the boss, then your boss hired the wrong person. He should have filters on company computers to prevent access to apps that waste employee time.
Charlie Sheen Checks Himself Into Rehab (PopEater)
Feb 23rd 2010 11:39PM I'm not sure if the law considers alcoholism an illness. If you have a heart attack or a diabetes problem while driving and kill someone it is considered a tragic accident. If you kill someone while driving drunk it is considered a poor choice and a criminal act. Haven't heard of anyone yet get out of a DWI by telling the judge that it was the illness and therefor not their fault. In my town a police officer who lost his job due to a DWI is sueing for lost wages claiming that his drinking problem was an illness and so he was not responsible - don't think it is going work for him.
