Comebacks we'd like to see: #11 -- 45 rpm vinyls {WalletPop}

May 19th 2008 4:13PM High school, late 70's. The 88 cent singles rack at Sears at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, NY. Sears! And you could buy new 45s at Monkey Ward, Sugarman's, Fowler's and a bunch of other places where they sold mostly clothes, shoes and furniture. It was truly a different world.
As for the disc itself, the visceral sensation of dropping the needle on the groove (several times over, if warranted) just beats the hell out of double and right clicking the track title. And you know right where the pops, clicks and scratches are gonna be, too. Even the unlamented cassette single was a more organic experience than what we've got now. The search and the effort is what made it all worthwhile.

Hot Seat: Is Obama a Fake Christian? {Political Machine Blog}

Apr 15th 2008 2:40PM Obama's answers on Sunday night were measured, thoughtful and credible, but they still didn't explain away his long-term membership in Rev. Wrong's church or his tacit endorsement of Farrakhan's periodic nutball proclamations. Yes, faith is a personal thing, and in a republic founded upon the bedrock principle that our government shall make no law to establish a religion or favor one religion over another, it's his business what he believes. But, like every politician, he's also a regular at the Church of Saying What Everyone Wants to Hear.

Larry King Confronts Little League Umpire {Fanhouse Backporch}

Apr 4th 2008 8:04AM So he must save his tough questions for the little league staffers. Has he taught his boy how to throw the "puffball" yet? And speaking of Chance, didn't Larry used to play with Tinker and Evers?

Man Believes His Dead Wife is Contacting Him Via Cell Phone {Switched.com}

Apr 2nd 2008 2:34PM BTW, is she buried in one of the 4,000 holes in Blackburn, Lancashire, and did they actually have to count them all? [OK, I know it's Blackpool, but they're not that far from each other.]

Man Believes His Dead Wife is Contacting Him Via Cell Phone {Switched.com}

Apr 2nd 2008 2:17PM Wow, I guess Britain's version of the telecommunications portability act is a little broader than ours.
P.S. Cool Blondie shirt, old dude.

I Am Hillary {Political Machine Blog}

Jan 30th 2008 12:13AM I'm happy to see that both the D's and R's are looking past the "I will say/do anything to be your President" types and actually looking at the substance and convictions of the two current leaders. I support McCain and believe that he has the all-around experience, toughness, conviction and compassion to be a Teddy Roosevelt-style leader capable of restoring the US's status and respect. Obama could also restore those attributes, but he doesn't have a long enough track record for most Americans to know where he truly stands on a lot of issues. Just the same, he's capable, smart, and has communication skills on a par with Reagan. And enough of this "won't say the Pledge/didn't put his hand on the Bible" nonsense (there's the real "fairy tale", Bill). Enough demonizing, enough name-calling abd enough condemning, already. Respect them both and then decide who's better suited to the job come November.
