Why does mileage drop in winter? (Autoblog Green)
Nov 13th 2009 3:58PM I think that the main point of the article and the most important is the fact that the blend of gas for winter is different. Most of us don't drive hybrids for a variety of reasons and therefore data from them is irelevant. However while the article mentions air density in terms of resistance (really? so waxing my car does improve mileage?), what it fails to point out is the effect of air density on the engine. Cold air is denser than warm air. In order to compensate for the denser air the computer compensates by adding fuel to keep the air/fuel ratio in check. Just as if you turbocharge a car or use NOS if you add air you have to add fuel. This factor along with the different blend of gasoline are the two biggest factors affecting fuel mileage
Review: 2010 Ford Fusion SE 6MT proves that sometimes less is more (Autoblog)
Apr 3rd 2009 1:46PM Holy cow, somebody else said it. CVT killed the altima. Ive owned two Altima's one stick one not. Also spent a good deal of time driving my brothers SE V6 stick, they switched to CVT and i didn't even bother to test drive when I bought my Accord auto. Hope somebody at Nissan is listening. Kill the CVT.
Writing on the wall: GM shutters high-performance vehicle division (Autoblog Green)
Feb 24th 2009 2:43PM That is a shame. In particular because of the Cobalt SS which has scored extremely well in handling and driving tests by the major media. I am strongly considering replacing my aged Buick commuter with one. I want to save as much fuel as the next guy, but not at the expense of driving dynamics. This is why I would never consider a souless Prius which i could pick up used for the same price as a new SS. The SS will equal the mileage on the Buick and be a lot more engaging. The way I save gas is to leave the truck at home and carpool. I dont want to go back to the 70's and 80's when cars merely where tools, CAFE be damned. As an aside this is why the Jetta TDI is high on my list, it might be slowish but it handles good and will blow away the mileage of either my Buick or the SS.
Brits can now order the 40 mpg Tiguan TDI (Autoblog Green)
Apr 4th 2008 2:51AM Hey! If any body is listening. I want/need a diesel Mininvan. Dodge? Honda? Toyota? I think 35 mpg sounds great on the next family trip instead of the 18 we averaged on the last one. I need something bigger than CUV (Cute Utility Vehicle) and only slightly smaller than a city bus. Anyone out there??
Chicago '08 Preview: Ford Transit Connect rumored to arrive (Autoblog)
Feb 17th 2008 8:22PM I just saw it at the Chi autoshow. I certainly hope that someone at Ford reads this. I dont need a Huge Sprinter or a Ford E150 with a gas hog V8. I would like a small four or six cylinder vehicle. Problem is I need it to swallow a 4x8 sheet of plywood or ten. Heck I can do it right now in my grand caravan, but I need to share that with the Family and I need a dedicated work vehicle. If not don't even bother as I want Ford to succeed. And yeah a four cylinder turbo diesel would absolutely Fabulous.
