You can get a mortgage on a mobile home, also referred to as manufactured housing) however some lenders require the home to be placed on a permanent foundation. You can also own the land the home is placed on. Many manufactured housing dealers offer land/home packages. It's a great, lower-cost solution to owning your own home. Manufactured housing has come a long way from narrow, tin-box trailers. There are double-wides, and even triple-wides, with beautiful interiors and exteriors. Once these homes are on a permanent foundation, you'd never know it was manufactured housing.
