Airlines Won't Block 'Porn' on In-Flight Internet Access (Switched)

Aug 28th 2008 6:29PM Hey, I like porn, but it's not something that should be exposed to children and it shouldn't be exposed to other adults without their knowledge and consent. If no one else is sitting where they can see the porn on your laptop, there shouldn't be a problem, but let's be real -- when's teh last time any of us have been on a plane that is almost empty. It is very, very rare taht you can be on a flight that is empty enough that you do not run a significat risk of exposing porn to others. I don't like censorship, but under these circumstances, it probably would be a good idea to block porn on the planes.

Elizabeth Edwards' Regret: 'We Can't Make John Black' (News Bloggers)

Aug 9th 2007 1:19AM After reading the quote in context, I realized that this commenatary is much ado over nothing. Hillary Clinton is the first woman with a real chance at winning the presidency and Barack Obama is the first African-American with a real shot at the jot. The fact that our country has evolved to the point that they are real contenders is a very legitimate and important news story that deserves much coverage. The fact that a white male (in this case Edwards) has a real chance at the job simply is not newsworthy, so he has to come up with alternative story lines to attract the attention of the press. Since a white Southern male as a contender is not a historical event, he cannot claim that his election would be a historical turning point for our society. His press coverage has to ride on his policy decisions without the press bost of him being a history making candidate.

Dixie Chicks slam The View (AOL TV)

May 24th 2006 11:48AM Almost anyone who listens to the Dixie Chicks new album will confirm that they are on a great career path. They certainly have matured as artists and discovered their own unique voice. To those who criticize them for expressing their views, please remember that art is all about expression of ideas. In fact, the difference between a great craftsman and a great artist is the artist's expression of ideas. While the initial uproar was over an offhand comment made at a concert, the Dixie Chicks have incorporated that idea and their experiences into their songs in a way that clearly estabilishes them as wonderful artists. To those who complain that they made the comment while in England, I'll point out the obvious: England just happens to be where they were 10 days before Bush started the war. An American's right to express his or her view regarding our government does not evaportate when he or she leaves American soil. What did you expect them to do? Fly back between concerts, take less than a minute to express their opinion on American soil, then hop on the plane to fly back to England for their next concert. Get real -- they had just as much of a right to express their opinion as anyone else. To those who say that they are opportunists who came out with this album after Bush became unpopular, I'll point out another obvious point: an album like this is not made overnight. I do not know when they started work on it, but it certainly was not within the last few months during which Bush became so unpopular. To those who say the Chicks are no Bruce, I say you're right -- that's the point. The Dixie Chicks are the Dixie Chicks and no one else. Like Bruce, they have learned to be true to themselves and express thmeselves in their onw unique voice. How they will compare to Bruce decades from now is unknow, but it really doesn't matter -- this is not a horse race. What does matter is that, like Bruce and other true musical artists of our time, the Dixie Chicks have discovered their own amazing artistic independence. I have no idea where it will take them, but I am confident it will take them on a wonderful artistic journey and they will end up well respected for being exactly who they are meant to be.
