iPhone dock/photo printer combo may be too much, too late (TUAW.com)
Nov 21st 2010 8:06PM I don't know. If it has a fit-and-finish acceptable to an Apple audience, then the price seems quite reasonable to me. I just wonder who would use it. Who prints out hardcopies of their photos these days?
I think there's a bigger market for people getting their older analog photos into digital form than there is a market for getting your digital photos into analog form.
Thanks for sharing.
Zune HD a major sellout? (Engadget)
Sep 19th 2009 2:02PM @letstakeawalk--
"You mean Apple-esque marketing ploy?
I seem to recall even the Apple stores themselves being unable to keep certain unnamed devices in stock..."
---------------------------------------------
When you make the fastest selling / top selling product in it's category it's not called a 'marketing ploy," it's called supply and demand.
Not to say the Zune shortage is artificial either. I have no idea. Microsoft needs a win. They've had nothing but losses since Ballmer took the helm. The only legitimate argument in favor of another Microsoft failure would be to finally give Ballmer the boot so they can get someone competent in there. Otherwise, competition is good. Hope the Zune is a hit. Anything that instigates competition and pushes technology further, faster is good in my view. Especial is the mobile/pocket device category.
Is this the new iPhone? (Engadget)
Jun 7th 2009 1:07AM This looks faked to me (second image looks very "shopped"), though it could be faked yet somewhat accurate.
I'm not expecting to see a front facing camera... though I've been clamoring for one, nothing I've read indicates that one is coming in this release... Though I wouldn't mind being pleasantly surprised.
The only real feature I would be stunned if they didn't include is the magnetometer (digital-compass). Without it, the iPhone will not be capable of the kinds of augmented reality techniques of the new apps flooding to the Android market. But of all the gossip, the compass feature seems to be the most certain.
I expect to upgrade to the new iPhone, but may wait until the Vuzix 920AVs are released.
Microsoft's second Laptop Hunters commercial: Giampaulo buys an HP HDX (Engadget)
Apr 4th 2009 7:29PM Yes. Apple is a hardware manufacturer, first and foremost.
There is also a reason why Microsoft is going after laptops specifically.
For laptops with monitors over 16", Apple has the largest US market-share. Most people don't realize this.
Apple love it when people compare Apple market-share to Microsoft market-share. It makes it look like a David and Goliath story. The truth is, Microsoft is a software maker, Apple is in the hardware business.
In desktop and especially laptop markets, Apple is an 800 lb. gorilla. When you compare market-share in each category they compete in with other hardware manufactures, HP, Dell, Sony, Gateway, etc. Apple is right up there, and first in some hardware categories... once again, the market leader in large laptops.

Apr 4th 2009 7:16PM It all depends on what you're looking for and what you need to do.
Some software is only available on a PC, some industries (advertising and design related fields) are entirely standardized on the Mac hardware platform-- As it has been widely reported in the Advertising trade press, CP+B who produce these ads for Microsoft are entirely an Apple platform agency (and I'm sure many of Apple's subcontractors are running their businesses on PCs).
For fanboys to claim that Macs are always better machines for all people in all circumstances is silly.
But by the same token, claims from PC users that Mac users are only paying a premium for a logo is ridiculous. It's phony class-warfare marketing. The guy driving the Chevy hates the guy driving the BMW and will make all sorts of absurd rationalizations for why he's smarter for not spending so much money on a car just to have a status symbol. Whatever.
Apple doesn't sell on price. Neither does BMW. But both of their prices are realistic within their respective markets.
Microsoft wants to play WalMart style marketing because we are in a recession. Probably not a bad strategy.

Paul, you should have a look here:

HMDs will take off when someone creates one that is slick and fashionable as an iPod or a jawbone, and it will be just this sort of augmented reality rather than virtual reality that puts it into common use.

You seem to have forget that the medical community
was by far Apple's largest market for the Apple Newton.
Apple, smartly so, appears not to have forget this.

Meet Your New President, Mike Bloomberg (Politics Daily)
Jan 13th 2008 7:43AM Just an FYI: Bloomberg is a self-made billionaire, not an inheritor. His father never made more than $11k a year in his whole life. He came from a completely working class upbringing. Even as one of the wealthiest men in the world, Bloomberg still rides the subway to work each morning. Until one of the newspapers published a story about his phone during his second term of office, his personal home-phone number was still listed in the phone book.

It is informational, and contains statements by politicians from both parties, notable business leaders and others regarding a possible third-party run by Mike Bloomberg. It also contains some videos of interviews and others of Mike speaking on issues.
