World's Ugliest Hotels (AOL Travel News)
Mar 8th 2011 10:56AM Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Many of these structures accomplish exactly what they were designed to do, making a statement in color or shape to the general dinginess of the world around us. This article spotlights some esoteric colorful architecture but sadly defines the authors gray variegated view of the world. Having visited the Spirit Hotel in Bratislava, Slovakia it brings a smile at the memory. If more people brought a little color and daring to this ever increasing monochromatic World we would be the better for it.
Spring Break 2011: Where to Go and Where to Avoid (AOL Travel News)
Feb 3rd 2011 7:09AM This type of post hurts anyone who legitimately wants to rate vacation Spring Break destinations. Places that you endorsed were filled with links to advertising which one would suspect your palm was crossed. Those places you said stay away from have no links and your summary of why these places are bad, list crimes against tourist as an example. Lets pick one example and 2 minutes on Google found. Nassau, Bahamas, Negril, Jamaica you recommend avoiding Nassau Bahamas because of crime instead go to Negril, Jamaica.
Negril has one of the highest rates of crimes against tourists in Jamaica, some of them violent.
I know we all must make a living but cheap shots in the guise of a travel critic is at best poor journalism and at worst simply dishonest.
Creamy Fettucine with Sweet Peas and Prosciutto (Kitchen Daily)
Oct 25th 2010 6:42AM Some people eat to live and others live to eat. If you do not like the "fat" content then don"t make it or eat it. Method to eat foods that are rich, is to use self discipline and push away from the table. Somehow a version of this with soy cheese, tofu, skim milk, canola and rice flour rue, organic soy peas, non fat parmesan, formed tofu pepperoni doesn't sound appetizing but it would meet the "food police" criteria.
Most things in moderation, take a minute to taste and enjoy, live to eat. A truck could hit you tomorrow, you would be healthy looking going to eternity wishing you had made that Creamy Fettuccine With Sweet Peas And Prosciutto.
Flights Grounded and Passengers Stranded When Pilots Quit (AOL Travel News)
Aug 3rd 2010 6:22AM Flying home on Friday night St Louis to Bloomington, Small Turbo Props are used, about a 45 minute flight gate to gate.
One Friday evening we had been sitting on tarmac for about 45 minutes, suddenly the engines wound down and our women Captain through back curtain, marched to rear of plane with a look only a married man knows about and fear, we all looked down at our hands and tried not to draw attention to ourselves. She opened rear hatch be herself , threw down the steps, we watched including pale, young co pilot with big wide eyes as she started off to control tower leaving us there. After 30 minutes we see the pilot marching back to plane where she closed rear hatch by her self and walked to cockpit once again there was absolute silence and we looked at our hands in our lap, we knew the look, I had been married for 25 years, She kept mumbling that they would not let her quit. Off we went at high rate and steep climb we landed in Bloomington 24 minutes later. My wife asked how was my trip, how could I answer, I sat looking at my hands. Although a bit of tongue in cheek, a true story and thankfully never had that pilot again.

Jul 11th 2010 6:26AM If God doesn't exists as you claim and I claim God does exist.
If I am wrong what did I loose , If your wrong what do you loose?
Having faith in God can be pragmatic or intuitively right. Yelling at God, that he doesn't exist, would imply that you believe he hears or recognizes you. Face your own mortality and God becomes very real. As a scientist the more that I learn the more that I am convinced that there is a higher power. Take time to look around you, his presence is in most things that we see, feel or love. Keep yelling into the wind and no one hears, but you. Wouldn't it be great to know absolutely, that something or someone has your back and that you are here for a reason. If I knew how to give you faith I would, study, observe, learn and continue to grow and you come to the realization that you had help all along the way, it really is quite a shock.
Charged Up About Batteries: Why Are They So Expensive? (AOL Autos - Translogic)
Jun 27th 2010 11:42AM If you would like to look at production figures for the Gulf then go to EIA site. Link is: http://www.eia.doe.gov/oog/special/gulf/gulf_fact_sheet.html
Remember there are 43 gallons of crude per barrel. Modern refineries run at about 102% efficiency off of sweet crude. Take time to look at imports by country to the U.S. and exports by country from U.S.. We also import finished fuels as well as alcohols both Methyl and Ethyl. Pay attention to palm or palm kernel oils imported for methyl ester bio diesel. If you don't understand some of the nomenclature there is a glossary that you can click. Stop relying on FOX or CBS or most of media for your "FACTS' because they are not even close.
Get the numbers and a calculator and a clean "back of the envelope" and you can rough out the numbers and see what silliness we are being fed. If you cant figure out which "Pad" district you are in go to Google and type "U S Pad Map" here in the Midwest we are PAD 2... (That all makes sense if you actually look at the numbers and run them)... Take time to educate your self and draw your own conclusions.
Pet On The Street - What Really Annoys Your Dog? (Pawnation OLD)
Jun 27th 2010 6:56AM My dogs ride in my pickup on the way out to the farm. They dislike strangers who come up and say look at the pretty dogs, people baby talk and stick their hands and/or heads inside the truck to pet them. Even though they are well acclimated to people, well trained to hand gestures you can see by body language they do not like the baby talk or the intrusion. Australian Cattle Dog and German Short Hair both are working dogs and my buddies.

Take a minute for a small basic chemical engineering concepts. It all appears simple and intuitively right this must be the way it is. First, liquids do not burn, only vapors "burn". Burning and combustion are two different things. Diesels are versatile because there are a great many liquids that will compress until they start to change state from liquid to vapor and we start to build pressure in the cylinder which pushes the piston down and you have a running motor that will do work. Piston design has little to do with power and more to do with forming the flame front in the cylinder. To make a diesel "clean" is the job of the reformulated fuel, addition of oxygen to the fuel, injection timing and duration and high injection pressures. If you look at a 80's diesel motor "injection pop" was approximately 2000 to 4000 psi, in today's diesels the injection pressures can be 20,000 psi plus which helps change a liquid to a gas in a more efficient manor. With catalyst exhaust that will come and constantly renewable or self cleaning particle traps (helps to eliminate PM 10 emissions). Lowering the post cooling of cylinder temperatures lowers the NOx and the addition of oxygen lowers CO and HC emissions. As more emissions start to be controlled (limits parts per million, by volume, in exhaust gases) in the next few years as an example the formation of aldehyde's and acids with some styles of renewable diesel fuels and additives will be regulated. Technology on diesel engines are changing and growing rapidly. Interesting work is being done on rotary diesel engines that rely more on rpm and kinetic energy rather than torque. Also we have technologies already developed that will allow the combustion of almost anything flammable, that will find its way to the markets over the next decade. Diesel technologies are vastly improved over the old pre-chambered diesel engines. Do your self a favor and test drive a new generation diesel, you will be pleasantly surprised.

May 26th 2010 8:03AM Steverc, what exactly makes this article pathetic (causing or evoking pity), speculative(abstract reasoning), and generally indicative of Bovine Excitement (to speak lies or nonsense) and why would this innocuous article set you off?
