Apr 8th 2008 5:31PM Putting a taser in the hand of an untrained police officer is equivalent to subjecting someone to the electric chair without a trial.
Police officers aren't scientists; and if they were, they would not be so overweight! We are not paying them to be lazy and ignorant, and a taser in their hand gives them a license to use a weapon that they are not qualified to administer upon someone. Electrically shocking a person who is intoxicated with alcohol or other substance can cause instant cardiac arrest/death. Pepper spray is the most effective defense against someone who is unruly. It gets their attention and subdues them in order to be restrained, without the potential of them dying. I have seen how effective pepper spray is on inmates, and I see no need for tasers.
