WRUP: Hitting pause for a minute (Joystiq)

Dec 24th 2010 11:11PM No new games this Christmas (which is quite the shocker), but I'll be grinding away on Aion pretty much all night, even after Xmas mass. Maybe change it up with some Black Ops here and there. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Man Avenges Speeding Ticket by Buying Expired Police Department URL (Switched)

Jun 9th 2010 12:05PM How can you talk responsibility when the cops installing cameras at intersections or wherever to catch speeders? I see police are being responsible by letting cameras do their work.

And safety? Please. Everyone knows these aren't about keeping drivers and pedestrians safe. It's just another way for municipalities to rake in the dough. I know these are tough times economically, but don't confuse public safety with revenue.

Oh and please keep the holier-than-thou to a minimum, unless you've NEVER SPED IN YOUR LIFE.

Have you ever tried Photoshop or some other design work with a Trackpad?

HP Slate killed? Rumor mill says 'yes' (Engadget)

Apr 30th 2010 12:27PM I love how the industry is apparently yielding to the iPad. Glad we have choices.

Then again, we still don't know if the iPad is going to be the success many people say it's going to be.

Maybe the world just isn't ready for a true tablet.

Aye, this is true. Fail on my part.

Police investigating lost iPhone prototype raid Gizmodo editor's home (Engadget)

Apr 26th 2010 5:28PM Correct me if I'm wrong, but the device wasn't stolen. And it's not illegal to keep something you found, right? And if someone wanted to buy something that was found, not stolen, that's not illegal either, right? (Regardless of whether it's ethical or not).

Is this raid even legal?

Now that would be TRULY revolutionary and magical if they could figure that out...

HP Slate to cost $549, have 1.6GHz Atom Z530, 5 hour battery? (Engadget)

Apr 6th 2010 1:43AM @(Unverified)

So by that measurement, all current laptops, netbooks, some phones, and well...anything that only lasts 3-5 hours on a single charge, fails.

Not saying battery life isn't important, but seriously? You're comparing a (giant) iPod with what's basically a full-fledged computer. Apples (no pun intended) and Oranges man.

I have an HP netbook running Atom and Win7 and it runs magnificently. Sure it doesn't have the speed of a typical notebook/laptop, but it's not like it's crawling or struggling to run programs. All I need is something mobile that can run a few Adobe CS3 apps at a time, with Outlook and a few browsers open. Guess what? It does all that with no problems.

Obviously without having a Slate in my hands, I can't say that it'll be the same way. But if the Slate is to be any kind of success (even if it's more of a successful proof of concept -- kinda like Apple's MBA), then I'd imagine it'd have to be at least as good as most Netbooks today.
