Jul 5th 2008 4:44PM Drilling in America won't make the long-term difference we need. The world is going through a demand-supply inversion that won't get better. We need to save the oil for heating/industry/agriculture and reduce gasoline consumption in cars. The more gas we burn in our cars, the less oil we have for other, more important things.

Jun 2nd 2008 12:56PM If homosexuality is such a big sin, why wasn't it one of the Ten Commandments? I would think that something that was so abominable would rank higher than covetousness.

Dec 14th 2007 5:28PM Regarding the Prius' gas mileage and fun driving quotient:
I have had a Prius for two years now. I consistently average 45-48mpg, and I have a mountain to drive over each way on my daily commute of 30 miles. I gave up a fun ride when I traded in my V6 Passat AWD, yes, but I figured that having a "non-fun" ride would save me even more $$ since I wouldn't just go out on random errands in order to enjoy driving. "Fun to drive cars" encourage unnecessary trips and wasteful driving habits. I think we have to reassess our relationship with automobiles. Do we really need to have fun driving cars? No, the Prius isn't all that fun to drive, but I'll have fun saving money for many years.
The Steroid Wars: Clemens vs. Bonds {News Bloggers}
Dec 14th 2007 1:48AM I say, let's have a Roid-Off. Clemens versus Bonds. Clemens pitches, Bonds hits. MLB figures out some kind of formula, i.e., number of pitches, number of swings. Only one man gets into the Hall. Strike outs versus home runs. Pay per view. HBO.

Dec 13th 2007 5:05PM I teach English at Virginia Military Institute. I remember back in 1994 trying to interest one of the Marine ROTC instructors in using Steel Panthers, a strategy game, to help teach cadets about the use of air power and artillery in the battle of Khe Sanh and how these made the difference for the Americans that the French didn't have at Dien Bien Phu. Nothing came of my attempt at interdisciplinary ingenuity. I just don't think he got the concept. Glad to see that the Army is embracing the technoloy, though. Finally. You woulda thunk they'd be knee deep in this stuff back in, oh, 1991 or so.
