Mezuzah Case: Condo Association Bylaw vs. Jewish Practice (AOL Real Estate)

Mar 29th 2012 7:14PM Just another example of how contentious religion has become. If the rule concerning added decorations was in place when she moved in then she has NO case. If she wants it changed get a majority to go with her to a meeting and change it dont just gripe about it. However if it gets changed get ready for the possibility of a satan worshiper putting a devils head on the door or someone whose religion is based on purple painting the door that. Or a nudist puting a naked picture up. You see how ridiculous you religious zealots are.

Texas Family Wins Fight Against HOA to Keep Pet Kangaroo (AOL Real Estate)

Mar 5th 2012 8:06PM Unfortunately the HOA is correct in expecting homeowners to keep the promises they made when they bought the property. How uncaring these parents must be to allow the child to form a bond with a wild animal full well knowing they would be breaking their word to the HOA. But then, now a days I guess "your word is your bond" is a laughing matter.

Most Controversial HOA Moves of the Year (AOL Real Estate)

Dec 24th 2011 3:25PM To Woo Hoo and Raymond. I speak from experience with two HOAs. Also you didnt answer the primary question. Why would you or any other saneperson move into a situation that they knew all about and didnt like? Just a simple answer will do ...not a tirade questioning my motives.

Most Controversial HOA Moves of the Year (AOL Real Estate)

Dec 24th 2011 12:54PM While it can not be denied that there are HOAs that exceed reasonability I would never live in a neighborhood without one.
After having served on two different boards I have a different take on the issue and have observed that those who do the most vociferous complaining are those who also do or have done the following;
1. Bought property without understanding what an HOA is or that one exists
2. Never have read the CCRs they agreed to.
3. Read the CCRs but decided they didn’t apply to them (most common)
4. Have never attended a HOA public meeting
5. Have never attended a HOA social function or a meet and greet.
6. Have never voted in the election of officers for the HOA
7. Never attempted to change the restriction they didn’t like. Usually only requires a majority vote of the homeowners.

As mentioned by many of the responders; why would anyone, who reads the CCRs and doesn’t like them, buy a home in a neighborhood with an HOA? Right, there is no logical reason. If by some accident the buyer didn’t know about the HOA then their fight is with the Title Insurer since most states require a signed statement that the buyer acknowledges the HOA and the CCRs prior to title transfer.

Just remember; in the absence of an HOA your neighbor may end up establishing a business such as a kennel, plant trees that will overshadow your home, build a home that blocks the sun or infringes on your privacy or is pink in contrast to surroundings, your home, or common sense, just to mention a few objectionable activities.

So, if you don’t like HOAs don’t move into one. If you did move in to one and you don’t like the rules change them. If you cant change them because the majority wants them…well, get out.

HOA Forces Family to Remove Disabled Child's 'Therapy Home' (AOL Real Estate)

Dec 16th 2011 2:07PM Yes I agree that actions like this indicate the country is going to hell in a handbasket.. Why? Because they show the small value that many people place on their word. Anyone buying a home in a subdivision or building with an HOA is given a copy of the Community Rules and Regulations, acknowledges its presence and AGREES to abide by the CCRs IN WRITING and under their signature. Without this agreement in most states title transfer can not be completed.
Why then, for whatever reason, should anyone expect not to follow those regulations.
If after negotiations and prior to the rule being violated a solution can not be found then the homeowner has two options; comply or move out.
Personally, remembering some of slobs I have lived next to I wouldnt live in a subdivision without an HOA.

Be Very Afraid: 5 Key Ways Homebuyers Are in the Dark (AOL Real Estate)

Oct 31st 2011 6:42PM I really got a good laugh at the individual who said "even at no interest he couldnt afford a house". OMG.. hey dude did you ever think that maybe you just arent making enough money to deserve one.. Perfect example of someone who, if he does scrape together enough, shouldnt be allowed to own one. In 5 years it will be the eyesore of the neighborhood cause gee, he didnt think of insurance maintenance, taxes.
