Bride Sues Groom for Leaving Her at the Altar -- To the Tune of $95K (Lemondrop)

Dec 16th 2010 12:03PM I've been married to my husband for over 25 years. My wedding was in front of a justice of the peace. It cost about $250.00-my dress and flowers for me and my bridesmaid. The JOP was so thrilled not to be marrying people in blue jeans for a change that she jazzed it up a bit and lit some candles and did a really nice job. I remember my wedding, which is more than I can say for some of my friends who went the big ceremony route and were so stressed out that they don't remember theirs. I simply couldn't see spending that kind of money on a two hour ceremony. My mom was a single parent and I wasn't going to put her in debt, nor was I in a position to shell out any kind of money either.

Nowadays, a lot of folks realize that this is a joint effort and both sides contribute what they can. The fact that she felt she needed this big hullabaloo-for heaven's sake, $95,000 is the price of a small house!-and that he went along only to bail at the last minute indicates they had serious problems already. I'm of the opinion that his actions should have consequences-it's not fair for him to get off scott free. But suing for emotional distress seems rather silly, though I suspect, lawyer that she is, she's shooting for the moon in an effort to get anything at all back.

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I' Smashes Records: Box Office Report November 19-21 (Moviefone Blog)

Nov 22nd 2010 6:25AM I didn't much care for the last three books in the HP saga-I thought that they needed an editor and Deathly Hallows was the biggest disappointment in that department-too many pages devoted to something that could have been summarized as "Harry, Ron and Hermione hid out in the woods for six months." I actually liked the movie versions of Order of the Phoenix and Half-blood Prince because they trimmed down and refined the story line. When I heard that they were going to split Hallows into two movies, I knew we wouldn't be so lucky this time around and so it was-like the book, way too much time spent camping in the woods. The cinematography was beautiful though, and there were moments I enjoyed. The second half of the book picks up the pace, so I expect Part 2 will be much more enjoyable.

I second the person who said they'd have been better off doing one 3-hour movie like Return of the King. It would have been a tighter, better film.

'Dancing With the Stars' Week 5 Results (AOL TV: Dancing with the Stars)

Apr 21st 2010 6:41AM Maybe I can actually watch the show now that Kate is gone. I have never understood what all the fuss is about as regards that woman-she's not attractive, she's not talented, she's not intelligent, she's not nice. Her fifteen minutes of fame should have been over a long time ago. I personally find it distressing that she reproduced eight times.

Cadillac tax: Is health insurance a luxury? (WalletPop)

Mar 20th 2010 8:06AM All this bill is is a money grab by the insurance companies. They contribute a ton of money to BOTH parties and this is why.

And yes, we could afford health care for everyone in this country, if so much of our budget wasn't spent waging wars for trumped up reasons to get resources for multinational corporations.

Why is it OK to bail out greedy bankers, but when the people of this country really need something, suddenly that's socialism? The only socialism we really have is corporate socialism. That needs to stop and we need to get their filthy money out of our elections as well. The recent Supreme Court ruling, which allows them to basically spend all they want influencing our elections, is treason.

Could Plastic Surgery Kill Dramatic Performances? (Cinematical)

Mar 13th 2010 11:49PM Joan Rivers is totally frightening. She looks freakish now, she's had so much work done.

I hate it that we disrespect our elders so much that these folks keep trying to do anything to keep from looking older.

11-Year-Old Fights for Health Care Reform After Mother's Death (BV Black Spin)

Mar 12th 2010 1:33PM I don't get this "Medicaid will take care of everyone who can't get health insurance" belief. It simply isn't true. My son is 23 and works 50+ hours a week on two jobs, neither of which have health insurance. He is not eligible for Medicaid and can't afford private insurance. Who can? Most of those plans are $600 a month plus! I live in fear that he'll be injured or get really sick and have no access to health care.

Sorry, but not all of these people who are dying because they're uninsured are slackers.

The Curse of Zombie Shopping Malls (Housingwatch)

Mar 4th 2010 10:09PM Actually, you are wrong. You rein in spending like you rein in a horse. Reign is to rule.

What Every American Should Know About the National Debt (Politics Daily)

Feb 4th 2010 12:51PM Amen! We need to get back to citizens who come to Washington briefly to serve their country then go back home to real life. Because the folks in the Beltway have no conception of what real life is anymore.

What Every American Should Know About the National Debt (Politics Daily)

Feb 4th 2010 12:45PM There was a person further up the chain here who claimed that boomers had not saved any money for their retirement. I beg to differ. My husband and I worked and contributed to IRAs and his pension plan to the max. He retired last year. The year before, during the crash, our retirement savings lost value by a full 40%. Short of hording money under the mattress, what exactly were we supposed to do?

There's a whole lot of party bashing going on here, liberal vs. conservative. You play into the hands of the politicians and the corporations when you do that and you miss the real point. The plain fact of the matter is that neither side has your best interest at heart-a politician is bought and paid for before he ever takes his oath of office. The corporations donate money during elections to both sides of the aisle and thanks to the recent Supreme Court decision, they can do so all they like-even multinational corporations. If you think your $200.00 donation is going to trump some corporation's hundreds of thousands, you're delusional.

I'm wondering if what we need to do isn't starve the beast. Simply stop buying things we need credit for on an individual level. Banks have absolutely ruined this country. Drive our ten-year-old cars into the ground, do not use credit and tell them all to kiss off. And make Congress use Social Security and Medicare for their retirement, instead of the cushy plans they have now.

eBay Changes Pricing Schemes for Auctions, Struggling to Regain Edge (Switched)

Jan 28th 2010 12:12PM eBay used to be a place for small entrepreneurs to get started. Now it's a snake pit. John Donahoe does not care about the American home-based businesses he's decimated-he's too busy making sweetheart deals with big Asian sellers of junk. They get zero listing fees and deals on their FVFs, while small American sellers pay more and more. He recently bragged during the earnings report about the 14 million new listings he got from Asia. He didn't say anything about the hundreds of thousands of small American sellers he drove out of business. The new fee schedule is a slap in the face to the people that built that company-an increase of well over 100% in some tranches and categories. Has this idiot not noticed we are in a recession? I guess not, because otherwise he might have lowered fees and done a bang-up business at a time when folks are looking to buy and sell used goods. But that's a dirty word to John-he doesn't want to be a flea market. He wants to be Amazon, or Overstock or something new every other week. It's no wonder that eBay's sales are falling, Amazon is becoming the premier online shopping destination, and other auction sites are beginning to gain ground.

John needs to go hang out with his greedy banker buddies, the people that drove this country into economic chaos. He's cut from the same cloth-as long as he gets his, he doesn't care about anybody else.
