The new milk jug makes its debut {ParentDish}
Jul 2nd 2008 11:23AM I went to grad school in Toronto, and they had something that was more enviornmentally sensitive. You bought a pitcher and milk came in a flexible, thin plastic package. You put it in the pitcher (plastic pack and all) to pour. This used, I suppose, less plastic than the milk cartons and all. But we really need to go back to using glass bottles which can be returned. Ditto for pop. And there needs to be strong legislation that forces these companies to cut down on packaging of everything. The Earth shouldn't suffer so these mega-corps can use their packaging for advertising to maximize their profits. Corporations will NOT be good citizens either on their own or through the Republican loved "market forces." They must, unfortunately, be legislated before the Earth is one big garbage dump.
Paranoia Alert: Invasion of the Penis Snatchers {Asylum}
May 3rd 2008 12:08AM Gee, I thought that only the witch Hilary could make these things shrivel up. Mine certainly does every time I think about her being elected to office....and I'm a Democrat!!!

FedEx chief turns negative on economy {BloggingStocks}
Apr 13th 2008 8:03PM Realistically we are in the beginning of a serious economic downturn. This would be clear to anyone with half a brain if they would get past their political ideologies and look at EVIDENCE. The Republicans don't want to admit how badly Bush and Greenspahn and Benarke have botched things up because they have this emotional need to believe that Bush walks on water, heals lepers and levitates on alternate Saturdays. Instead, he has sent the U.S. economy into a downturn which will result in mortgate riots, possibly food riots, and quite possibly civil war. This isn't my prediction. It is the prediction of the head of the World Bank who is predicting food riots in the U.S. within 4 years. If there is anyone left to write history, Bush will go down as the worst president in U.S. history. Hopefully, he'll go down as the ex-president in U.S. history to be tried and convicted of his crimes and sentenced to life imprisonment in a Federal Penitentiary for his war crimes against humanity in torturing people and starting a needless war, and for defrauding the American people. Hopefully, his cell-mates will be Cheney, Rumsfeld, Ashcroft and Gonzales, with Condi in the women's side of the pen.
Polar bear Knut senselessly murders ten carp in front of zoo visitors {Gadling}
Apr 13th 2008 7:54PM There is a word for this: anthropomorphizing. This long word means: assigning to non-human things the morals, ethics, behaviors, feelings and/or motications of humans. This is a BEAR. He didn't MURDER the carp. He EATS carp. It would make as much sense to say that we MURDERED a steak! (OK, the nuts at PETA believe that, but people with brains don't.)
Computer Program Rates Female Beauty {Switched.com}
Apr 13th 2008 7:18AM Beauty is so subjective that this program seems useless to me. I find my wife to be the most beautiful woman in the world. No one can even hold a candle to her. She is Thai and drop-dead gorgeous. But while certain actresses don't come close to her, I think Drew Barrymore is the most beautiful actress there is. I also like Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock. But I think that Angelina Jolie is really, really ugly, which is not the opinion of most other men. Paris Hilton, ditto. Spoiled, useless and UGLY. So, again, this is very subjective. And, really, if a guy can't tell whether a woman is attractive or not, he doesn't need a computer program to tell him. He needs a psychiatrist to find out what is wrong with him. Keep the program, I'll take my taste and judgment any day.
Army Yanks Robots Iraq Over "Control Issues" {Switched.com}
Apr 13th 2008 7:12AM Holy Terminator Movie, Batman! Perhaps the gunbots simply didn't like being under the control of an inferior species...us. We need to be very careful about arming robots. There is enough sterilization of the killing of people already and enough ways to destroy life. Wars become much more likely if there are no body bags coming home. The fact that there ARE body bags is one of the few checks on our race to keep us from wiping each other completely out. War is absurd and useless enough without robots to conduct it for us.
Man Caught With Child Porn By Computer Repair Service {Switched.com}
Mar 17th 2008 9:38PM To SW who says "If you're not breaking the law you don't have to worry about your freedom being taken.." HOW IGNORANT ARE YOU??? Have you NEVER read history and seen how many INNOCENT people have had their freedom taken? If you are STUPID enough to believe that, you're probably a right wingnut Republican and, by definition, born without a brain. Ask Holocaust survivors if they were breaking the law. Ask the Japanese-Americans who the U.S. shipped to internment camps if they were breaking the law. Ask one of the thousands of innocent people that the Innocence Project has freed by DNA evidence (and who prosecutors often wanted to keep EVEN after they'd been proven innocent) if THEY were breaking the law. And the Law is not always a good law. It is this sort of infantile thinking that has a Chimp in the White House using the Constitution for toilet paper. As to the child porn and the other idiot that said possessing it was not illegal. ARE YOU REALLY THAT IGNORANT??? OF COURSE it is illegal and well it should be. As for the tech not having police authority OF COURSE he did the right thing. He MUST look at the data on the machine to do many things for PC repair. Under the law, anyone observing the physical or sexual abuse of children is REQUIRED BY LAW to report it. If the tech hadn't, he would have been guilty as an "accessory after the fact" if this guy was ever busted. And, excuse me while I vomit, but WHAT kind of sick, warped puppy looks at ANYTHING to do with 1 year old babies and sexual activity? This guy needs to spend the rest of his natural life in prison. Whether he molests children or not is immaterial. By purchasing this stuff or exchanging it he is materially contributing to the severe abuse of children. The prevalence of ignorance on these blogs amazes and disgusts me. It simply goes to show that you need not have a brain to use a computer or be online...or comment in a blog.
Using Cell Phone While Driving Akin to Driving Drunk, Say Researchers {Switched.com}
Mar 17th 2008 8:33PM This study doesn't compare apples to apples. I'd like to see a study where the "scientists" (and I'd like to see some real scientists for once instead of captive researchers to either the government or some company) compare talking with passengers, esp. children, to driving without distractions at all. I would contend that driving with children is much more dangerous than driving while using a cell phone. The issue is that reaction time and attention span go down whenever ANY distraction is presented. Let's try doing a study with talking on a cell phone vs. a). driving with a child under 5 in the car b). driving with a child 5 - 12 in the car c). driving with a teenager in the car d). listening to National Public Radio e). listening to a popular music station f). listening to classical music g). driving with another adult in the care h). driving with multiple adults in the car (the government pushed carpooling effect) and, finally, i). driving with multiple children in the car of varying ages.
I will bet anyone that driving wtih three toddlers in the car, or a fighting brother and sister or a bunch of teens or a bunch of rowdy pre-teens or even a bunch of adults in the car is MUCH more distracting than talking on the phone. I'll also bet that listening to an engaging story on NPR winds up just as dangerous as talking on the cell phone. Also that car-pooling is at least as dangerous as cell phone conversations. Let's compare apples to apples and then we have something to talk about (only a little pun intended).
The 920 calorie breakfast burrito {Slashfood}
Oct 20th 2007 7:56PM While I wouldn't eat that (would make me very ill) it is the right of people who want to eat that to eat it. We need to stop telling others what they should or should not do and just mind our own business. Also, I am sick of the fat jokes and the constant reference to "obesity." No, not ALL overweight people "overeat," though some do. Mostly, it is genetics. There is no excuse for the abuse that is heaped on those who are heavier than others. It is just plain cruel and unnecessary. It also must stop. Talking about "fat" people negatively all the time is like speaking of black people, Asian people, Hispanic people, etc. negatively all the time. It is discrimination pure and simple.
